Glad to see that I am visiter 0001 to the site... Before he died, our father brought up, for the first and only time, WWII and the Pacific. He told stories of the bombing of Japan, and the fire bombing of Tokyo. The bombing of Tokyo was originally set as precision H.E. Bombing, and because of the poor weather, had mixed (at best) results. It seems that the head of the army air corps decided to switch to fire bombing.... The reasoning was, if we can't hit the plan s, we can interrupt their supply of labor.... Several methods were discussed, and one of the test runs involved BATS with White Phosporous (timed) tubes attached. The reasong was simple... The bats would be released and would seek the darkness under the houses and factories. Several hours later, the .P would mix and voilla.....fire from underneath and within.... a most deadly and efficient process. Jack's B-29 was fitted with a giant net filled with BATS and WP...At the appointed drop zone his bombadier opened the bays and away they went...... The deadly destruction of the firebombing was noted with great gusto...... It seems that he, toward the end of his days here on earth, went to a reunion held in Hawaii.... At that reunion he met a survivor of the firebombing..... They discussed the devastation, and the survivor told him that he had a question regarding the logistics and tactics... It seemed that the initial firebombs were devastating, but as the fire fighters went about their work, there came another deadly attack..... He wanted to know to know who thought up the idea of dumping frozen bats on them as they fought the fires... Seems that no one thought about the effects of 40,000 ft and high altitude bombing...... The BATS froze within moments and hurtled to earth with their deadly White Phosphorous attachment, causing much pain and damaged as they rained apon the survivors fighting the fires....

Thank you for your interesting information on the Orkney Islands and the Viking connection. I always thought that AELingakloetr must be Norwegian but I had another Linkletter insist it was Scottish because the Orkneys were Scottish. Do you know of another site with more information on the Linkletters? I was contacted some years ago by a Linkletter who was collecting ancestries for our family tree but he said my father's link could not be found. I would like to make that link. I di order everything available from Broderbund (publishers of Family Tree) but as far as their records my father never even existed! Thanks for listening. :)
