James E. Graham Will
Written 15 Feb 1890
I James E Graham of Goshen Township Clearfield County and State of Pennsylvania yeoman; being of sound mind, memory and understanding do make and
publish this my last will and testament hereby revoking and making void all former wills by me at anytime heretofore made.
And first . I direct that my body be decently interred in the Goshen Cemetery according to the rites and ceremonies of the M. E. Church and that my funeral be
conducted in a manner corresponding with my estate and situation in life.
Second: That in case my beloved wife Susan shall survive me that she shall have the use of all the household furniture and reside in the old homestead
where we now reside as long as she lives and shall be supplied with food, clothing, medical attendance and all the necessaries and comforts of life by my son
Thompson Graham and that her funeral shall be conducted in a manner similar to that of my own ant the expenses of her support and funeral shall be paid by my
son Thompson Graham out of the share herein devised to him.
Third: I hereby direct that suitable tombstones be placed over my grave and that of my beloved wife within a reasonable time after the death of each of us at
a cost of not less than thirty dollars each. And that my executor herein after named is hereby enjoined to see that this provision of my will is strictly carried out.
Item. I give and bequeath to my daughter Mary Selfridge the sum of five dollars.
Item. I give and bequeath to my daughter Margaret E. Anderson the sum of five dollars
Item. I give and bequeath to my daughter Jane Graham two cows and all the household furniture that shall remain after the death of my wife in case she
survives me. And my said daughter Jane to have her home in the old homestead or house we now live in as long as she remains single and during said time
be supplied with food, clothing, medical attendance and all the necessaries and comforts of life by my son Thompson Graham.
Item. I give and devise to my son Thompson Graham the farm on which I reside. Situated in Goshen Township Clearfield County Pennsylvania bounded by l
and of J. A. L. Flegal, S. B. Taylor, and others, containing one hundred acres more or less: to have and to hold the same to himself, his heirs and assigns forever.
Subject however to the payment of the moneys herein before stipulated and the residence thereon and maintenance of my widow in case she survives me and
that of my unmarried daughter Jane Graham as herein before set forth.
Item. I also give and devise to my said son Thompson Graham the ten acres of land that I bought from H. H. Morrow situated in Goshen Township, county
and state aforesaid, bounded by land of H. H. Morrow, John C. Smith and others. Also all the woodland that I own. Consisting of the undivided one half of forty
acres of wood land situated in Goshen Township, county and state aforesaid, which I own jointly with J. A. L. Flegal to have and to hold the same to himself, his
heirs and assigns forever.
Item. Whatever, if any, money I may have at the time of my death shall be applied by my executors to the payment of my just debts, funeral expenses, cost
of settling up the estate, the erection of tombstones over the grave of myself and wife and the bequests to my daughters as herein before stated. And whatever,
if any, remains after the foregoing payments have all been made shall be equally divided between my son Thompson Graham and daughter Jane Graham.
Item. And as to the rest, residue or remainder of my personal property, consisting of horses, cows, cattle, sheep, farming implements or of whatever kind I may have
at the time of my death and not otherwise herein disposed of I give and bequeath to my son Thompson Graham, subject to the provisions herein after set forth.
Item. I further direct that in case the money I shall leave at the time of my death shall not be sufficient to pay all my just debts, funeral expenses, the cost of settling
up the estate and amount herein set apart for the erection of tombstones over the graves of myself and wife and the bequests to my daughters Mary Selfridge and
Margaret E. Anderson. That my son Thompson shall furnish the same. And in case he shall refuse or neglect to furnish the same within a reasonable time after my
death, my executors or either of them are hereby authorized and empowered to dispose, at public sale, of so much of the personal property hereby bequeathed to
my said son, as will be necessary to raise money sufficient to pay the same.
And Lastly. I hereby constitute and appoint my son Thompson Graham and my esteemed friend A. G. Kramer to be the executors of this my last will and testament.
In witness whereof I James E. Graham the testator have to this my will written on two sheets of paper set my hand and seal this fifteenth day of February AD One
