The 1st Wave

The First Wave included Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Han Solo, Chewbacca, C-3PO, R2-D2, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Stormtrooper, and finally Princess Leia. This wave was released just in time for the Christmas season which made them impossible to find. Kenner could not keep up with the demand. I remember buying the Millenium Falcon long before I found any figures. After the Christmas season it was becoming easier to find the figures. The craze went on. Kenner was overwhelmed with orders. The first shelf warmers became Chewbacca, and R2. Soon Han Solo joined their sides. For awhile C-3PO was considered rare and hard to find but Kenner finally cought up to the demand and now 3PO is often found on the shelves. Obi-Wan Kenobi, Princess Leia, and Stormtrooper remained the rarest until just recently. Though they are not the rarest to find, they are still not easy to find. Kenner had many problems with the first wave. First it was meeting demand. Then they produced a figure that won Biggest Flop of 1995, Princess Leia. Problems arose with the lightsabers. Many believed they were too long compared to the figures so a shorter version was produced and the longer version was discontinued making a perfect opening for collectors to have an item that many didn't. A problem arose with the shorter versions. Some plastic trays that hold the figures were still molded for the longer version of the lightsaber so many short sabers were put in slots for the longer lightsabers. Along with the figures there were 5 vehicles produced which includes the Landspeeder, Millenium Falcon, Tie Fighter, AT-ST, and Lukes X-Wing.
