The Evita-feelings !

Getting personal :

From: "Angela Palmer" Mon, 27 May 1996

I feel that the premiere of Evita in the movie world will be a treat not only to Madonna fans and critics, but also to Madonna herself. This musical is something that I really look forward to. I may be going to Hollywood just to see the premiere, at the Manchester Chinese Theater, for a special trip in honor of another big event in Madonna's career. I trust that it will be that good, and hopefully Madonna will get the acting credit she deserves as well as the musical attention.

Counting the days!! Try the seconds!!

But really, I hear a sample of Madonna singing 'DCFMA' I found on William McBrine's page, and I must say I was blown away! She sounded even better than I'd expected.

I just know I'm going to have a coronary waiting for the release of the soundtrack and movie.

How will I survive 'till then? Help!

I have been a Madonna a fan for almost ten years, I'm 20 now so I started pretty young. So I know how badly she wanted evita, when it was declared that Micheele Pfiffer got the role I was really pissed, don't get me wrong I think Michelle is a fabuolus actress and she is gorgeous, she has the look and the voice for Evita, but Evita was for Madonna. So as you can imagine once Madonna got the role Iwas very excited. Until september this year i had not discovered the internet so i was relient on ICON and tabloid reports, no offence to icon, but the net is so much more informative, for eg the photos from shooting just totally blew me away.Despite my negative response to certain things about Evita, Evita and Madonna has dominated my second year at uni, its a shame they do not do any Argentine courses, I would surely get a 1ST! I do not feel I'm obseesed with Madonna, but I have been dreaming about certain scenes after viewing photos from the shooting, for eg the images of young Eva Peron have inspired dreams of Madonna singing 'Buenos Aires', it all looks so fab! I feel the funeral scenes will be totally amazng especially if Madonna is displayed in an open coffin like Evita was with all those people who wailed on the streets, no doubt it will be an epic, and Ihope they all finally give it up to Madonna, cos by god she deserves it, I long for those days to return when Madonna ruled!

EVITA WILL BRING THE WORLD TO ITS KNEES

I have been a fan of the musical for about 6 months now because I started to research it when I knew the film was on its way. I am basically basing my opinion and feelings on Patti Lupone's performance because that was the cd I purchased. After falling in love with the story and the music itself, I began imagining MADONNA BELTING out the tunes in her most powerful voice. I always believed that Madonna had some hidden vocal talents that no one has ever heard before, not even Madonna herself. Her vocal power became evident to the world with 'You'll See' and will continue to blossom throughout this film. I can't express how excited I am for this film. I can't wait to see the faces of all those loser critics who dogged her in the past when they finally have to give it up to her. She i a artist , more talented than any other , yet some blind people who are not able to overcome their own insecurities have not been able to praise her so far. I know that she will demand that respect with this performance. Madonna will sing this musical and act with a passion not seen by her or anyone before. I have become a human promotional machine for this film. Everyone I know or come in contact with automatically becomes convinced that Madonna will be wonderful because I take the time to explain a few things. You see, the beauty of a true Madonna fan is that you don't have to dictate things to them word for word because they have the ability to think with an open mind and open heart. People who hate Madonna really are shallow and don't make much sense when they try to defend their points. I find people to be very hypcritical. Oh well, I will continue to do my part on Madonna's behalf. I would love to be involved in the promotion of the film. I have many ideas and I am very passionate about the entire project.

When I heard Madonna was playing Eva Peron i was so happy for her . I knew that this wouldn't be just a film , but THE film she had been waiting for . I emediately said she would get nominated for an Oscar for this role . I really hope she does because it will win me $100 from my dad.In the beginning I thought the music would be boring , until I bought the Evita album by Elaine Paige . I loved it from day 1 .I recently bought the Dutch version with Pia Douwes as Eva Peron and this is also a brilliant album. My favourite songs are 'Rainbow High' , 'Buenos Aires' ,'Another Suitcase in Another Hall', 'And the money kept rolling in (and out)' ,Don't Cry For Me , Argentina'....I can go on for a while ! I haven't heard all the songs yet. I am still searching for 'The Lady's Got Potential' and 'Charity Concert' and 'Eva's Final Broadcast' .

I am convinced that Madonna will get critical aclaim with her performance.Scenes that I look forward to are Evita's funeral and her death scene , but the scene I definately don't wanna miss is the scene on the Casa Rosada when Madonna/Eva sings 'Don't Cry For Me , Argentina'.

What can I say? All I know is that I can't wait for the release of Evita and the accompanying soundtrack. I have always been a large admirer of Madonna's work, and I can definitely sense the vitality and importance of this role to her career. I will pray that this role finally establishes her a solid niche in the film industry, and respect from the entire public. She deserves it, she works so damn hard. Her music showcases her brilliant and beautiful vocal talents, and these will definitely carry over to her portrayal of Eva Peron. I honestly wish that everyone out there puts aside any reservations they may have about Madonna, and just go see the musical for themselves. It should indeed be an intense and moving experience.

I think Madonna's performance will reach new heights and new levels for the film industry, and will probably call for more movie musicals to be in the works. Alan Parker's directions sounds very authentic and very close to Hal Prince's original direction. Jonathan Pryce as Juan Peron will knock the audience's socks off for his performance. As for Antonio, he will give them the best performance he has since Assassins. I think Madonna will reach her goal to be a real star to audiences worldwide, and I think her portrayal of Evita will be sacred. Hopefully, the film will stay true to Andrew Lloyd Webber's and Tim Rice's original intent.

I can't wait for Evita to be released. I think that Madonna is going to show the world that she can act. She's gonna knock everyone's socks off. I also hope it will help her gain her respect back. Now people will like Maddy again.

It will be tremendous for the fans to have something like this to watch and listen to. This will possibly be her most successful venture, and it is exciting just thinking about all the wonderful things to happen. I can't wait to watch the movie, listen to the soundtrack, and marvel at her all-around beauty.

What else? Evita!

I'm writing this from someone else's computer because I don't have e-mail myself (My name is Stephen Brown from Greenville, SC at 864-271-8340)

EVITA is going to be the movie event of the decade. I've timed myself several times during trips to the movie theater just to catch a glimpse of the brief trailer that's running before several other films. Madonna's voice sounds great, and I'm a big fan of Jonathan Pryce's work in Brazil and Miss Saigon (forget his luxury car commercials, although they're pretty good too). I'm also a fan of Banderas' work in DESPERADO, TIE ME UP! TIE ME DOWN! and PHILADELPHIA. It's poetic justice that he and Madonna will be working together after their flirtation in TRUTH OR DARE. The reason I wholeheartedly believe the film will work is because it is helmed by director Alan Parker, perhaps the only filmmaker capable of doing a musical. COMMITMENTS was sufficiently funny, FAME sufficiently moving, BUGSY MALONE suficiently cute and PINK FLOYD THE WALL sufficiently over-the-top to make me believe that Parker's next musical will be gangbusters. I believe Madonna has matured into the role. She's had hints of brilliance before- Heck, she sang the Sondheim tune "Sooner or Later" from Dick Tracy to an Oscar victory. I only hope that if she's as good as I foresee her to be, that she's nominated for an Oscar. (Heck, Cher has won one--nothing's impossible in the '90's!) I'm really impressed with the epic staging of the crowd sequences, the costumes, the orchestrations. I hope the filmmakers stick to the Elaine Page concept album that has more of a "rock opera" feel to it than a Broadway musical. I hope everyone will check the film out and hopefully discover that it is an exhilarating experience. I hope it is a true charttopper and proves the skeptics wrong. I know Madonna will be high flying, adored when she belts out a Buenos Aires for the world to savor!

O.K. Here I am in Los Angeles and heard it all over television about the big premiere for the film. It was packed and certainly a big...no a HUGE event. I have to admit, I am very excited about the film due to the fact that Madonna is in it and I don't think it would've gotten the attention had it been some other actress. I hope they do the real story justice because I am very afraid they'll distort an important part of Argentine and Latin American history which I happen to be very fond, sensitive, and knowledgable about. Yes I am aware it is a sung film but I am hoping Argentina is portrayed correctly and not with stereotypical Hispanic characteristics. I say this because not only do I want this film to entertain, I also want it to educate so that people here in the U.S. and all over the world finally see that Latin America is much more than poverty and war, it is also a vibrant, dynamic, and interesting place. Congratulations on a fantastic web page and I hope you answer my comments or add anything that will comfort my fears.

I was greatly anticipating the release of Evita because I am such a huge fan of Madonna's and because I am a lover of musical's in general. I called and reserved tickets for the January 1st premiere in Atlanta, GA sometime before Christmas. And then the big day arrived. I had a temperature and the flu, but I wasn't going to miss Madonna's big day. So I went, sick and all. IT WAS PHENOMENAL!!!!!!! I mean, I knew it was going to be good, but it completely blew me away. Madonna, Antonio, and Jonathan Pryce were too excellent for words to describe. I was in shock. I hope that all of you guys have had the chance to see it by now. I plan to see it a few more times in the theater. I would have written in sooner to speak of my great anticipation, but I have only become aware of this sight today!! Call me slow! Anyway, I'm glad I had this opportunity to express my feelings in writing to those of you that share the same opinions as I do! Later!

Saw the film today and I am almost speechless with wonderment! I always felt that Madonna was perfect for the part (sad to say I haven't been a Madonna fan in the past)because of her singing talents. I saw the stage production with Patti many many years ago (in fact, 3 times) and I loved it, bought and wore out 3 tapes and cd's. But I truly wasn't prepared for the emotional response I had seeing the movie. I never once cried at the play!! Those who do not see this film are missing one of the greatest films of all time. I even enjoyed the re-working of the music to a more contemporary beat. Great, Great, Great.

From: CASTROBEAR@aol.com

I have followed the musical EVITA since it's conception as a Rock Opera produced in a London recording studio. I was at the Broadway thater on opening night to see the American premiere of EVIA with Patti Lupone, Mandy Patinkin and Bob Guto. I haved studied the subject of Peronism in several Unniversities on the East coast and have purchase every known recording of the musical...You may say that I would be the definitive "Tough Customer" in regards to the movie. I am not a big fan of Madonna, however i do like her music. There is no question in my mind that she not only pulled off the performance of a lifetime...She is Evita! That's why when the Oscars were announced on Tuesday morning, my heart was in my throat when neither her or Alan Parker received Oscar nominations. The pain she must have felt...I was deeply hurt for her. As a point of fairness, I caught up with the other Best Actress performances and could only point out two that were worthy of the nomination. They were Diane Keaton for MARVIN'S ROOM and Francis McDormett foe FARGO...I have not yet seen SECRETS and LIES so I can't be too quick to jump on zher nomination there.

The big question is..Will Madonna sing you must love me at the Oscars? Should she, after they snubbed her so horribly? If she does, she's a much bigger person than ALL of them put together...

Thank you for a wonderful and insightful web-site.

VIVA EVITA!!! VIVA MADONNA!!!

WOW!!!!!! Evita was UNBELIEVEABLE!!!!! As a matter of fact I'm listening to it right now!!! I saw it opening night with my friend who, like me, is really into musical and Andrew Lloyd Webber. When it ended and the credits started comming up she looked at me with tears rolling down her cheeks and just said, "WHOE". That just summed up the whole movie for me. It was so great- and moving. Evita-Madonna... how perfect. She was simply astonishing!!! And Antonio!!!!! I 've honestly never gone to see a movie at a movie theater and come out feeling like that !!! Mucials had such an effect of on people's feelings and different aspects on life. What an EXCELLENT picture. BRAVO!!!!!!!!!

I bought the CD and listened to it. I really do like the music and might go back and see the movie again. Since I wasn't prepared for a musical I wasn't quite in the right frame of mind. Antonio Banderas definitely can't sing but I am going to give the movie another try. After I came home I did research on Evita. The history of her body after she passed on was quite interesting.

Evita

I saw "Evita" about one month ago and it has truly been on of the best films that I have seen in a very long time. Hollywood was worried about the film's success considering a successful musical had not been made since "Grease," but this film has achieved more than what anyone expected. Truly wonderful. Antonio Banderas and Madonna are excellent.

Evita

Came across Evita-Feelings and feel obligated to express mine. All I can say is that the Academy Awards really screwed up this year - they overlooked Madonna and her co-stars, and nominated the film for only a few technical awards. And then they honor a bunch of films and actors that nobody had heard of prior to the nominations! I think that it is very big of Madonna to sing "You Must Love Me" on the broadcast tomorrow night, even though the Academy screwed her. Frankly, if Madonna was not going to perform on the show, I would not watch it. The Oscars broadcast is always so long and boring, even when they do not deprive good movies of a chance to win. I think that I'll just watch Madonna sing and turn the rest of the stupid show off.

Evita-Feelings

As Evita's biggest fan, (I'm not joking. Ask any of my friends. I talk about Evita nonstop. I even have what I call "my Evita Shrine" in my room!) I came across this page and knew I had to write in. I am unlike many others - I am not only a fan of simply the movie or the play. I am a fan of Eva Peron herself. Me and Eva are exactly alike. We look alike we act alike, we have the same goals, dreams, everything I do she did, everything I am she was and is. It is true - Evita Lives, and she's alive in me. One day I will cary on what she started. We all must carry on what she started. She was everything. She was a saint. I have every book ever written on her, every word on the movie, I love Evita!!! Thank you for this page, and this chance to express my feelings.
