WARP BACK TO DBLFED'S NEXUS

Welcome, this section of my page will list some of the reasons why I made this web page, some of my other hobbies or interests, my thoughts on Star Trek, and so forth. I will try to keep it short.

I grew up watching Star Trek when I was just a kid. I remember I couldn't wait for the next episode. I wondered what Kirk and company would come up against next. I would wait until Saturday night and wait until the local news was over. Then it was time for the Twilight Zone, then Star Trek:TOS and if I really tried to keep awake, maybe I could stay up and watch Battlestar Galactica right after. Later, I heard that they were planning on making a Star Trek movie with Kirk and company. The rest is history. From all the sequels, the next generation and of course, where we are today with Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Voyager and the next Star Trek movie.

At first, I could not really decide what to make the focus of my web page. Other web pages that I saw dealt with alien races, particular Star Trek characters, links to other Star Trek sites and so forth. So I decided not to focus on any one theme. My web page has links to other Star Trek pages, pictures of mainly starships, a few sound files, and finally some general news on Star Trek and other sci-fi shows.

Star Trek is not the only sci-fi show that I watch. I do enjoy other popular shows like the X-Files, Babylon 5, Sliders, Quantum Leap, Battlestar Galactica,(not Galactica 80,it never happened),the Star Wars trilogy and Highlander, just to name a few. I also enjoy watching the old Twilight Zone episodes and Anime video releases.

In closing, I would like to thank GeoCities for letting me create my own free home web page. Sure, I only have one meg for my pages, but I am inspired to make the most out of it. I believe in content rather than flash. Animated Gifs and huge graphics are good, but what about substance? It is what and how you present your page that counts in my opinion.

Well, if have any questions or comments about my web page, read the small FAQ below or you can e-mail me at at dblfed@geocities.com.

Just The FAQ's

1.) If I request a link to your web page, do you rank my page or place it in a particular order?
No, if your web page is Star Trek related than you will be listed on my Star Trek links. I do try and write a one line description of the web page, but that is really all I do. I will not rate or judge your web page. I will leave that to others with more time and resources. The main purpose of my Star Trek links is to tell others of the sites I have seen or been told about. There are many well done sites out there that may not have huge graphics or animated gifs, but have good content. That is was is truly important.

2.) How many Star Trek links do you plan on having?
Well, I am not going to even try to list all of the Star Trek links simply because it would be almost impossibe to do so. I often find that site that is up one day can be gone the next day. Now imagine if you had to keep track of all those sites and try to find out if they just changed their site address or are really just gone. It is a tall order and my web page is a one person labor of love. I think that if I have no more than forty or maybe fifty Star Trek links, I could keep track of them. (barely though.) I am impressed with those sites that can keep up with hundreds of links. More power to them for all of their hard work.

3.) Since your image index has starships, that must mean you have a favorite class.
Yep. Actually, I have a few of them. I liked the Constitution refit (Enterprise-A), the Excelsior class was ok, not great, but ok. I really believe that the Ambassador class (Enterprise-C) should have been used in Star Trek: The Next Generation. It is a great design. Think about it, it had the same red circular warp nacelles in the front and was basically a larger and combined or hybrid version of the old and refitted Constitution class starships. The Galaxy class was ok too, but it looked like a flattened pancake. The new Enterprise, well I have to wait on that one. The Intrepid class is a great design too. It can land on planet surfaces and can seem to take a lot of damge and yet keep on going. I know that this is one of the newest ships, but a ship can only take so much damage before you would have to stop at a starbase or a planet for a month or so for repairs. But I digress...

4.) What is the main purpose of the FYI index in your web page?
The main purpose is the free exchange of information for sci-fi fans everywhere. If you heard some rumours or news about your favorite sci-fi series or actor or whatever the case may be, wouldn't you rush to tell all of your friends? Same principle here. Whenever I see or hear something that is either Star Trek or sci-fi related and I think it is important, I will try to cite the source whenever possible and plave that tidbit of information on my FYI index. I have also placed some sci-fi links that have news related inoformation on them so one can find out much more if they so choose. This includes some newsgroups as well.

5.) What is your favorite Star Trek series?
Tough one. I have always liked the original series the best for the simple fact that it is what got me interested in science fiction in the first place. Sure the special effects are nothing compared to now, but the stories are what made it work for me. Star Trek: The Next Generation was also good in its own right. Star Trek:Deep Space Nine and Star Trek:Voyager are also good in their own way. One cannot compare one to the other. Each series has to stand on its own merits. If all of the Star Trek series were exactly the same, what good would it be. It is the fact that the shows are different that make each of them special in their own way.

Well, that is just about it for this section. Enjoy your stay here at this small corner of cyberspace.
