Habitat

My firebelly toads live in a 10 gallon waterfall vivarium setup. The tank is approximately 1/2 water and 1/2 land.

Substrate

The floor of the tank is covered with large gravel, large so the toads cannot fit the gravel into their mouths. The reason for this is that I have heard that sometimes the firebellied toads accidentally swallow the gravel while going for the cricket.

On 1/2 of the land side I have sphagnum moss, bought at a local pet store. The toads seem to love to hide in it or just sit on top of it.

Water

The water is about 2 1/2 inches deep. The water used in my tank is regular faucet water. I let it sit for 2 days to get the chlorination out.

I have a powerful water filter that is totally submerged under water. I hooked up a tube to the outlet part of the filter. The water flows through the tube then over rocks to make a waterfall. The toads seem to love just sitting on top of the waterfall where the water flows.

Rocks

I have regular rocks from a local creek. I soaked the rocks in diluted bleach. I soaked the rocks for 24 hours. Then took the rocks out of the bleach and washed them off very thoroughly. I set the rocks on top of each other to make a beautiful waterfall setup.

Plants

Well, I didn't feel up to all the soil and watering of live plants so I decided to use fake plants. I bought them at a local store. I washed them very thoroughly with water and very very little soap (do not use very much soap because it can be harmful to the toads).

Cover

I have an escape-proof screen cover. I bought this at a local pet store, it was pretty expensive though. So, I would suggest making one by yourself if you have time. The screen cover gives the tank good aeration.

Lighting

The tank is lit up by a 40 watt light bulb that sits on top of the screen cover. I turn the light off around 9 o'clock and I turn it on around 9 o'clock
