Throughout Star Trek's Long Histery there have been many Starships that have performed above and beyond the call of duty. Here are just a few of those Starships that have paved the way for many storys in the Star Trek series, When Gene Roddenberry Pitched Star Trek to the Networks in 1964 he refered to the show as "A Wagon Train To The Stars" Here are those Wagon Trains That have explored the many Frontiors of Human Imagination. So as Captain Picard would say "Engage."
The Original USS-Enterprise-NCC-1701
Without
a Doubt the most famious Space Craft in Starfleets histery of Space Exploration. The Original USS-Enterprise was a constitution class Starship, Registry number NCC-1701.
The original Enterprise was launched in 2245 from the San Francisco ship yards orbiting Earth, the Starship was first commanded by Captain Robert April, then by Captain Christopher Pike and the ships final Captain was Jame's T Kirk.
The Ship acheived legendery status during it's five year mission commanded by Captain James T Kirk from 2264 to 2269. The original Starship was refitted several times during it's life time, most notably in 2270, when virtually every major system was upgraded, a new bridge module was installed, and the Warp Drive Necells were replaced.
The Ship was destroyed in 2285, just prior to it's scheduled retirement, in order to prevent the ship from falling into enemy hands during a rescue mission to recover the body of Captain Spock. The first enterprise served the Federation for 40 years making it the only Starship Enterprise to ever be in service. However in Star Trek III an admiral states that the ship was only 20 years old an obvious oversight on the writers part.

USS Enterprise-NCC-1701-A
The
Second Starship to bear the name was a constitution-class vessal, registry NCC-1701-A. Launched in 2286, The Enterprise-A was the second Enterprise to be commanded by James T Kirk. The Ship was placed in his care by the Federation Councel in appreciation for Kirks role in saving the Earth from the destructive effects of an Alien Probe.
Although Shakedown tests and systems installation under the aegis of Captain Montgomery Scott had not been completed. The Enterprise-A was rushed into service in early 2287 to intervene in a hostage situation at the planet Nimbus III.
The ship under the reluctant command of James T Kirk was pressed back into service to escort Klingon Chancellor Gorkon and his delegation for a Peace Conferance. Although the scheduled talks were councelled after the assasination of Gorkon, the Enterorise-A and her crew were instrumental in the success of the historic Khitomar Accords. Shortly after the Enterprise-A was decommisioned.

USS Enterprise-NCC-1701-D
The
fifth Federation Starship to bear the name. This ship was a Galaxy-Class vessal, Starfleet registry NCC-1701-D. The ship was launched in 2363 from Starfleets Utopia Planetia fleet yards orbiting Mars.The ship was commanded by Captain Jean-Luc Picard on a mission of deep space exploration and diplomacy.
The ship was severely damaged during the Borg encounter of 2367, and had to undergo six weeks of repair work at Earth Station Mckinley.
The Enterprise-D was Briefly commanded by Captain Jellico in 2369, while Captain Picard was on a Covert mission on the planet Celstris III.
The Starship Enterprise-D was destroyed in 2371 during a mission to prevent a deranged Scientist from destroying the Varidian Star System. During that mission the Enterprise took a direct hit from a Klingon-Bird Of Prey, causing a loss of antimatter containment.
First Officer Williom T Riker ordered an emergency saucer seperation, and Commander Deanna Troi was succesful in piloting the Vessal to a relatively safe distance, just before the Stardrive section exploded.
The resuilting concussion knocked the Saucer module out of orbit, but Troi managed to pilot the vessal to a soft landing on the surface of Varidian III. Although the Spacecraft was deemed a total loss, there were no fatalities in the emergency landing.

The USS Enterprise-NCC-1701-E
Federation
Starship, Sovereign Class, the sixth the bear the name. The USS Enterprise-E was launched in 2372 and was placed under the command of Captain Jean-Luc Picard. The Enterprise-E is currently the most advanced starship in the fleet and is almosy 700 metres in lengh, the ship has 24 decks.
The Enterprise-E was partially assimulated by the Borg in 2373 in their last ditch attempts to assimulate Earth in the past, Captain picard and Data saved the ship and Earths future and the ship remains in service.
In 2375 The Enterprise-E While Under the command of Commander Riker Played a Vital role in saving the Ba'ku Planet from destruction by the obsessed So'na Leader and in doing so insured the safety of the Ba'ku Planet and Aided the Ba'ku and So'na to resolve their differencies peacefully. The Enterprise-E remains in Service and many more adventures await her, let histery never forgot the name Enterprise.

The USS Defiant-NX-74205
Federation
Starship, registry NX-74205. The USS Defient was a prototype for the proposed Defiant Class, The second starship to bear the name.
The Defiant was officially classified as an excort, but began development in 2366 as a small highly -powered, heavily-armed Starship intended to defend the Alpha quadrent from the Borg threat. The Defiant was the first of what would was to be a new Federation Fleet of war ships. Starfleet abandoned the project when the Borg threat became less urgent and after some design flaws were detected during the ships shakedown cruise.
The ship has a minimal crew accomodations, a small sickbay, and no provisions for families. The Defiant can carry at least two shuttlcrafts.
In 2371, the Defiant was assigned to Deep Space Nine and placed under the Command of Commander Benjiman Sisko. The Defiant has played a vital role in the dominion conflict, the ship also has the destinction of being the only Starfleet vessal in the field to have a cloaking device.
In 2373, The Defiant, under the command of Lietenant Commander Worf, was part of the Starfleet armada that intercepted the Borg Cube at Earth on Stardate 50893. The Defiant was seriously damaged and the surviving Crew including worf were beamed aboard the Enterprise-E. The Defiant was left adrift but salvagable and has continued to serve as protection to Deepspace nine, As Commander jokingly stated to Lieutenant Commander worf in "Star Trek: First Contact" She's a tough little ship.

Space Station: Deep Space Nine
Old
Cardassian Space Station built in orbit of the planet Bajor during the Cardassian Occupation. Deep Space Nine was built in 2351 by the Cardassians, who called the Station Terok Nor, to exploit Bajor's rich uridium deposits. In 2362, Gul Dukat was the commanding officer on Terok Nor. He retained that position until 2369. In that year, the Cardassians relinquished their claim on Bajor and retreated from the region.
Starfleet assumed control of the facility shortly thereafter, at the request of the Bajoran provisional goverment. Though administered by the Federation, the stationg falls under the juristiction of the Bajoran Provisional Goverment, and is subject to their laws.
Starfleet Officer Benjamin Sisko was placed in charge of the Station, Shortly after Sisko tool command the station assumed great commercial, scientific, and strategic importance when the Bajoran wormhole was descovered, linking the Bajor system with the distant Gamma Quadrant. Sisko ordered the station moved near to the wormhole in oder to solidify the Bajoran claim on this remarkable phenomenom. This placed the station three hours from the planet Bajor.
Major features of the station include the Operations Centre (which make the day to day running of the station possable), the promanade (the stations market place which had many shops and bars, including the famious Quark's Bar), three massive docking pylons, and several on an outer docking ring. Incorperated into the docking pylons were several massive Ore processing facilities designed to refine uridium ore.
The extent of the defensive shields around the station is almost 300metres. There are normally about 300 perminent residents on the station, not counting visitors and crews of ships docked at the station. Weapons are stored in the Habitat ring on level 5, section 3. The station has the capacity to accomadate about 7000 people. Access conduits on the station were shielded with duranium composites, making the interior of the conduits imperbious to sensors.
In 2371, Ben Sisko began a major upgrade program on the stations defensive systems in anticipation of the Dominion invasion. These preporation paid off a year later when they enabled DS9 to defend itself against a fleet of Klingon ships when the Khitomar accords broke down due to a missunderstanding between the Klingons and the Federation.
On Stardate 49904.2, Upper docking pylon three was severely damaged in an attack by a group of renegade Jem' Hadar. The pylon was subsequently repaired. In 2373, a detachment of Klingon warriors was assigned to DS9 to help defend against the dominion threat.
In late 2373, The Dominion Allied themselves with Cardassia and after a matter of weeks exucuteded an attack on Deepspace Nine, leaving the Federation with no choice but to retreat from the Station, Deep Space nine was occupied by the Cardassian and Dominion Union for roughly six months, However Captain Benjamin Sisko on behalf of the Federation retook Deepspace nine and pushed the dominion and Cardassians Union back out.
The USS Voyager
Federation
Starship, Intrepid Class, Starfleet registry number NCC-74656, Commanded by Captain Kathryn Janeway.
Voyager has a gross mass of 700,000 metric tons and is 15 decks thick. The ship was equipped with a compliment of 38 Photon Torpedos as of Stardate 48546.2. Voyager had a crew compliment of 141 and has a sutainable cruising speed of warp facter 9.875. Voyager was also equipped with upgraded computer systems in which some traditional Optical processers where replaced with Bio Neural Circitry.
The ship also has conventional isolinear optical circuits. The Bridge is located on deck 12. Voyage is one of few Federation Starships that has the abillity to land on class M planets and return to space.
In 2371 the USS Voyager was voilently propelled into the Delta Quadrant by a powerful displacement wave generated by an entity known as the Caretaker.
Stranded some 70,000 light years from home, Captain Janeway formed an alliance with the Maquis crew that Voyager was sent to pursue. Janeway invited maquis commander Chakotay and his crew to join what was left of Voyagers crew.
In early 2374 Voyager was partially assimulated by the Borg. When the crew of Voyager formed an uneasy alliance with the Borg to fight speices 8742.
