After getting out of the slammer, Alan Spaulding got his fortune back from his three trustees, Blake, Alex, and Vanessa, then turned it all over to daughter turned sister Amanda. Alan then tried to con a fresh from the grave, Amish wannabe Reva into his arms, only to lose her to Buzz Cooper. Spurned Alan then waged all out war on Buzz's diner and surrounding neighborhood, only to give up due to a pang of conscience. After the revelation that Alan was the one who set Phillip up years ago, his sons despise him, and he has alienated his daughter/sister for the last time. Only sister Alex stayed in his corner, but she left Springfield. Alan then turned to helping out the manipulative Annie Dutton in her quest to keep her husband Josh Lewis, but after falling in love with her, schemed to bust up Annie's manipulations. However, Annie was able to play him like a cello, and Alan helped her with every scheme that she ever planned. Alan got burned however, when on his wedding day to Annie, it was revealed that Annie was already married to Eddie Banks. Since then, Alan has meddled in his son Phillip's life, and paid a bad guy, Carl Stevens, to break up him and Beth.
