MADONNA
I admire her for being a successful business woman. She knows
what she wants and doesn't let anything or anybody get into her way.
Madonna often starts a new clothing trend, like wearing bras as short tops.
She never fails to come up with new styles for her music as well as her
looks. She is the most creative person I have ever had respect for.
Of course, I love her music. My favorite song at the moment is NOTHING
REALLY MATTERS. This song should have been released as single for
much longer but it may have been another one of her tactics to keep us
waiting.
KISS
When I was a teenager (yes, I was one some time ago!) I couldn't help
but imitating them. Since my hair was long and straight, the
obvious thing for me was to imitate Ace Frehley. My other friend
Claudia imitated Gene Simmons. We even performed briefly at a school
event.
I had cut out every little article of KISS and collected it in a binder.
I even cut out the word KISS,whether it related to them or not, and
glued it on a page. How sick is that?
I owned every LP (excluding releases outside of Germany) and cassette.
By around 1989, they seemed to disappear and I got caught up with New Wave,
the old techno, and other musical influences. Just recently
I found out through a special show on VH1 that KISS had been on tour in
Australia and the US, and even released other albums after 1989.
Guess I will check into that and enjoy my teenager memories again.
JANET JACKSON
>I am not a big fan of hers but the last two albums were great.
My most favorite song of hers is THAT'S THE WAY LOVE GOES. Check
out my other link to mid files to listen to a sample.
LIVIN' JOY
This is a girl (or even a band) from Italy. The album DON'T STOP MOVING is one of my favorite because the songs get me going and make me want to dance. The song DREAMER will prove that.
FAITHLESS
INSOMNIA has never been a problem of mine so I guess that's the reason
why I listen to this song over and over. I even got so crazy
to buy the single CD with 5 different versions of that song so that I can
listen to the same song for over 30 minutes.
LA BOUCHE
I know that their songs are sort of commercial but I also can't help
it. Once I turn the music on in my car it makes me drive faster because
they get me going. BODY AND SOUL is a great song for house music
lovers.
SOUND TRACK OF THE MOVIE "187"
I bought the CD for this movie just because of the song SPYING GLASS by MASSIVE ATTACK. When I listened to the rest of the tape, I found another one that I could listen to all the time, RAINCRY by GOD WITHIN. And there are some more terrific songs. Check it out!
PLANET SOUL
SET YOU FREE was one of the songs that raised my attention. But after listening to their other songs, I realized that I liked their style. It may sound the same at first but once you get hooked to it you don't want to stop listening. Sounds incredibly cool when turning up the music in the car (if you have a good stereo system that is).
SADE
I think that SADE's songs are timeless. I can't think of any other band or singer that I like in that music category but her style makes me relax and enjoy the music. The album LOVE DELUXE has most of the hits on it.
U2
Another band that was just recently featured on VH1. There is one song
that is being played during sad biographies on the show "WHERE ARE THEY
NOW?". It is my most favorite song of U2 but I don't even know the
name of it. Can you help?
My favorite songs include: Lemon, With or Without You.
SEVERAL OTHER HOUSE MUSIC/DANCE MUSIC RECOMMENDATIONS:
1. JEMTONE Got the feeling (Pow Wow Records, Inc., New York
2. CLUB MIX '97 (Imported from Germany, Polygram TV, available
at Virgin Records)
3. SPEEDGARAGE
THE 80'S ALSO INFLUENCED MY TASTE FOR MUSIC. I LOVED THE "NEUE DEUTSCHE WELLE", WHICH WAS A PROGRAM SPONSORED BY GERMAN RECORD COMPANIES FOR A YEAR. THERE WERE HUNDREDS OF INCREDIBLE GERMAN BANDS THAT WERE SUCCESSFUL DURING THAT YEAR BUT AFTER THE CONTRACT EXPIRED NOBODY EVER HEARD OF THOSE BANDS AGAIN. THAT REALLY TICKED ME OFF BECAUSE FINALLY GERMANY HAD FOUND SOME MUSICIANS BESIDES THOSE MUSHY OLDTIMERS AND THEN THEY DIDN'T SUPPORT THOSE BANDS. SOME OF THE BANDS WERE Spider Murphy Gang, Nena, Spliff, and others that I don't remember right now. Gotta do some more surfing on the net....
