The man who would become Elwood Blues was born in 1952 in Ottowa to a father who was the Assistant Deputy Minister of Transport. Graduating from Carlton University with a vast knowledge of sociology under his belt, and an increasing interest in writing and performing. He was spotted by John Belushi whilst a member of the Second City improvisational comedy troup, Belushi was scouting for talent for National Lampoons Radio Hour and the two (as we all know) became great friends. Together the two of them were asked to join Saturday Night Live when it started in 1975. The show, despite it's late showing time, soon found popularity and Aykroyd was a major contributor to it's success - his impersonations of Carter and Nixon being the most noticeable. And, of course, it was the beginnings of the Blues Brothers and the start of a film career...
