THE SHINING
- **1/2 Stanley Kubrick's version of The Shining.... what can I say. Jack Nicholson was excellent as a psychopath, but he had some problems playing the normal guy in the beginning. Let's just say this movie is loaded with problems. Its biggest problem is the director's decision not to explain anything and basically confuse us. A family moves in as caretakers of The Overlook Hotel in the winter, so they can relax and the father can work on his novel. Things go downhill from there as they become isolated, and the shining is unleashed. Still very spooky and scary, but too confusing. We're all patiently waiting to see the effectiveness of Stephen King's "The Shining." I still say check it out for spooky factor.
