Bio for Robert S. Woods
Emmy Award-winning actor Robert S. Woods plays the role of Bo Buchanan, the handsome younger son of the rich and powerful Buchanan clan. Unlucky in love and marriage, Bo has finally found happiness with his bride, the wonderfully witty Nora Gannon. As Llanview's police commissioner, Bo is trying to expose the dangerous, mob-connected Carlo Hesser.
Robert, who created the part of Bo Buchanan in 1979, won an Emmy for it in 1982 as Outstanding Supporting Actor and has since garnered three additional nominations. After six successful years in the role, he took a hiatus from the show to go to the West Coast to pursue film and television opportunities. He returned to "One Life to Live" in January, 1988. In 1994, Robert and his co-stars Clint Ritchie and John Loprieno re-created their "OLTL" roles on the top-rated prime-time show, "Roseanne."
Prior to his return, Robert portrayed Commander Eugene Lindsey in Herman Wouk's "War and Remembrance," which aired on the ABC Television Network during the 1988-89 season. He appeared in the Los Angeles production of "Stitch and Eubie," which won the Drama-Logue Critics Choice Award; played in "Carly's Web," a television movie; and was in the pilot, "Changing Patterns."
Acting was always Robert's goal, but before concentrating on his career, he served 15 months as a Green Beret in Vietnam, seeing action with the Army's Fifth Special Forces Group. He is an active member of the New York Vietnam Veterans Commission, which sponsors a job training and employment program.
After returning from the war, he majored in broadcasting at California State College at Long Beach and, following graduation, went to study at the Film Actors Workshop in Los Angeles, the James Best Theater Centre and the Directors Lab.A variety of parts in television, films and regional theater have followed in steady succession. Robert played the recurring roles of Dr. David Spencer in "The Waltons" and Lt. Bob King in "Project UFO," as well as roles in "Family," "City of Angels" and "Newhart." Feature films in which he appeared include "The China Syndrome" and "Big Wednesday." Among his made-for-television-movies are "Just a Little Inconvenience," "The Night They Took Miss Beautiful," "Police Story," "Fantasies" and "Chase."
In theater productions, Robert has co-starred with Dorothy Lamour in "Barefoot in the Park"; and played in the Disney Drama Workshop productions of "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying" and "Li'l Abner," and the First Acting Company presentations of "Lovers and Other Strangers" and "Awake and Sing."
Born and raised in California, Robert comes from a family of Texans, including an older brother and four older sisters. He currently lives in Manhattan with his wife, actress Loyita Chapel, and their son, Tanner.
