Jason
|
Alan and Monica Quartermaine's marriage was seriously on the rocks. Monica was in love with Rick Webber -- in fact, everyone thought Monica's son, Alan, Jr., was Rick's, but the child turned out to be Alan's. Alan, for his part, began having an affair with Susan Moore.
When Susan became pregnant, Alan refused to divorce Monica, fearing she would try to take Alan, Jr., away from him. Susan gave birth to Jason and for a time, Alan and Monica were estranged. Eventually, Alan discovered he no longer cared for Susan and still truly loved Monica, and the two reconciled.
Susan, who had become an alcoholic, married Scott Baldwin -- who, along with Heather Webber, wanted control of Jason and his million-dollar trust fund. When Susan was murdered, all of the Quartermaines, Scotty, and Heather were under suspicion, but in the end it was proven that the guilty party was Crane Tolliver, a con artist and Lila Quartermaine's first husband. Monica resister, but in the ned, Alan convinced her to raise Jason along side Alan, Jr., as her own, and she quickly grew to love him as such.
It was easy to love Jason Quartermaine -- he was almost too good to be true.
Handsome,
intelligent,
and compassionate, he was devoted to his family and planned to follow his
parents into medicine. A familiar thought (often spoken!) around the
Quartermaine mansion was, "Why can't AJ be more like Jason?", for AJ grew
up troubled and volatile, and with a drinking problem. Time and again,
Jason helped AJ get through one disaster after another.
Jason met Karen Wexler at Port Charles High and the two immediately hit it off; when Jason talked about AJ, Karen felt she understood because her mother, Rhonda, drank. They began dating, but Karen developed feelings for Jagger Cates. Jagger was the opposite of Jason, rough and difficult to know where the other was cultured and easy-going, but the attraction grew -- on both sides -- nevertheless.
Jason and Karen were crowned King and Queen of the Valentine's Day Dance, and seemed the perfect couple -- until Jagger showed up, and Karen left with him. Humiliated, Jason also believed his father and Karen's mother were having an affair (technically, they weren't; a flirtation only, Rhonda never stood a chance of luring Alan away from Monica).
Always kind-hearted and fair, Jason got over Karen and Jagger's betrayal soon enough. He was one of the first to stand by and lend his support when Brenda told the Quartermaines that Karen was secretly a stripper at Sonny Corinthos' club. With help from Jason, the Quartermaines, and the rest of her friends, Karen beat her drug addiction, got away from Sonny, and married Jagger.
Jason
met and began dating Keesha Ward, granddaughter of Mary Mae, a gifted singer
helping to revitalize the Charles Street District of Port Charles. When
Keesha's cousin Justus came to town, oddly enough, tensions grew between
the Quartermaines and the Wards. Jason and Keesha were honestly perplexed
at the opposition their relationship met from both families.
Eventually, they learned that Justus' now-deceased father, Bradley, was the son of Mary Mae and Edward Quartermaine, who had met during the war. Once the truth was out, no one had any more objections to Jason and Keesha's storybook romance.
Unfortunately, AJ's drinking problem was only getting worse. When he ran out one night and climbed behind the wheel of Lois' convertible, completely intoxicated, Jason went after him. Jason jumped into the car with AJ and tried to grap the keys from him before he drove off. However, AJ managed to start the car and Jason, who had not put his seatbelt on, was left unprotected. AJ then ran right into a tree and Jason was ejected from the car and hit a large boulder. AJ wasn't hurt because of the air bag on his side of the car. Ned Ashton came upon the scene of the accident and decided to claim he had been driving the car, not AJ, to prevent the family from knowing AJ had been driving drunk again.
Rushed to General Hospital, Jason survived surgery but Dr. Tony Jones warned the Quartermaines that neurological damage was likely. Jason remained unconscious until he received a visit from an old friend, Robin Scorpio....
