Vita Nova Centre |
What of the ineducable child, or the child who leaves school and is unable to find employment in the open labour market? The Vita Nova centre, established in 1977, is set in tranquil, country surroundings and attempts to be a home from home - creating a warm and friendly atmosphere. Vita Nova, meaning 'new life' was initiated by a group of concerned parents, and is situated in Daggafontein, Springs, South Africa. Resident children and adults have their own rooms - or at most, share with a friend - and decorate the rooms to their own taste. Recognizing the needs of these people to feel part of the community a protective workshop has been established where the adults perform contract work for outside companies.
Continuous stimulation leads to a better quality of life, and various forms of therapy are provided on a daily basis in the Stimulation Centre and whenever possible the children and adults are taken on outings and picnics by the staff and/or service clubs.
Catering for the medical needs of the residents, the nursing staff are available 24 hours a day and the services of the district surgeon are also available. With a large waiting list and other centres unable to help, the financial burden is heavy, but your support is extremely important - help spread our message!
