GENERAL INFORMATION
Tertiary Education in Greece is provided by the Universities (AEI) and the
Technological Educational Institutions (TEI).
The Technological Educational Institutions were established in 1983 under Parliamentary
act 1404/83 «Structure and function of Technological Educational Institutions (TEI)».
They are independent, self-governed legal entitles, supervised by the Minister of
Education and Religion. They are mainly concerned with the assimilation and application
of scientific, technological, artistic or any other form of knowledge and skills in the
various professions and as just they contribute an autonomous, individual entity in the
educational system.
The TEI of Thessaloniki is located in an area of approximately 425 acres, near the village of Sindos, at a distance of seventeen kilometers from the center of Thessaloniki.
It comprises five schools each incorporating three to five Departments of different specialties and two general Departments.
Members of teaching and staff-work full-time or part-time are classified into three grades : Professors, Associate Professors and Professors of Applications according to their academic qualifications, teaching and professional experience.
There are also technical supporters employed in the lab work as well as administrative staff.
The TEI of Thessaloniki has a student population of approximately 17,000 which places in the fourth position among the Tertiary Greek Educational Establishments.

SCHOOL OF AGRICULTURAL TECHNOLOGY
1. DEPARTMENT OF ANIMAL PRODUCTION
Graduates of this Department can be self-employed or co-operate with other scientists
in the study, research and application of technology on contemporary and specialized
areas of Animal Breeding Science such as production, handling, marketing, preservation,
packaging, management of animal products and animal nutrition as well as animal
protection and reproduction.
2. DEPARTMENT OF CROP PRODUCTION
Graduates of this Department deal with the study, research and application of
technology on contemporary and specialized fields of Agriculture and the process of
plant production which are : cultivation, handling, marketing, preservation, packaging
and management of agricultural products as well as reproduction (seed-production
nurseries).
3. DEPARTMENT OF FARM ADMINISTRATION
Graduates of this Department are entitled to employment in the whole spectrum of
management and administration of agricultural and animal husbandry units.
SCHOOL OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION AND ECONOMICS
1. DEPARTMENT OF ACCOUNTANCY
Graduates of this Department deal with accounting in the private and public
sector, specifically with book-keeping and computerised accounting methods. They are
in a position to check and endorse the reports of the Authorized Internal Revenue
Services as well as reports on Income Tax and Value Added Tax, submitted by people in
charge of A, B, C clan books of the Tax Accounts.
2. DEPARTMENT OF LIBRARIANSHIP
Graduates of this Department deal professionally with the study, research and
application of contemporary technology on the organisation and operation of libraries,
which includes the National Library, Central Libraries, specific research libraries as
well as Documentation Centers.
3. DEPARTMENT OF MARKETING AND ADVERTISING
Graduates of this Department are professionally involved with the study, research
and application of technology on contemporary and specialized areas of marketing and
advertising such as market surveys, sales increase, advertisement and promotion.
4. DEPARTMENT OF TOURIST INDUSTRY
Graduates of this Department deal professionally with the study, research and
application of contemporary technology on tourism economy and specifically with the
production and supply of tourism goods and services as well as administration in various
units and travel agencies.
SCHOOL OF FOOD TECHNOLOGY AND NUTRITION
1. DEPARTMENT OF FOOD TECHNOLOGY
Graduates of this Department deal professionally with the study, research and
application of contemporary and specialized areas of food science and the process of
preservation, processing and quality control of food as well as the by-product
exploitation. They also participate in the waste treatment of food industry.
2. DEPARTMENT OF NUTRITION
Graduates of this Department are entitled to be employed in the following fields:
a. Testing of nutritional value of foods
b. Food labeling
c. Participation in the establishment of new products’ standards
d. Diet planning and supervision of their application
e. Supervision of catering
SCHOOL OF HEALTH AND MEDICAL CARE
1. DEPARTMENT OF BABY / INFANT CARE
Graduates of this Department are employed in nurseries-kindergartens. They have
deep knowledge on the fields of pre-school education, raising infants and health care
in general.
2. DEPARTMENT OF COSMETICS
Graduates of this Department are entitled to employment in the theatre, cinema
and television, in enterprises which manufacture or sell cosmetics, in hospitals and in
cosmetics’ laboratories.
3. DEPARTMENT OF MEDICAL LABORATORY STUDIES
Graduates of this Department are in charge of medical laboratories in the public
and private sector : i.e. microbiology, hematology, histopathology, cytology, general
immunology, virology, radioisotopes, laboratories, as well as in blood banks.
4. DEPARTMENT OF MIDWIDFERRY
Graduates of this Department can be employed in the following sectors : family
planning centers, GYN and maternity departments, out-patient departments specialized in
infertility, oncology, pre-natal and post-natal care. They can also work in new born,
intensive care units.
5. DEPARTMENT OF NURSE TRAINING
Graduates of this Department are entitled to employment as members of hospitals
and clinics in the private and public sector, in the whole spectrum of medical care
provision.
6. DEPARTMENT OF PHYSIOTHERAPY
Graduates of this Department are in a position to work out the appropriate
therapeutic program using natural means as massaging and movement. The medical
specialization’s in which a chartered physiotherapist takes part are : Orthopedics,
Neurology, Neurosurgery, General Surgery Pediatrics, Gynecology, Mid-wifery, Sports
Medicine, Traumatology, Cardiology, Cardiosurgery, etc.
SCHOOL OF TECHNOLOGICAL APPLICATIONS
1. DEPARTMENT OF AUTOMATION
Graduates of this Department can be employed to control electronic arrangements
used to adjust power for the automation of assembly lines where they can also improve
the efficiency of installation general. They have a wide range of activities wherever
production requires the application of automatic control.
2. DEPARTMENT OF CIVIL WORKS TECHNOLOGY

Graduates of this Department deal with the study, research and application of
technology on contemporary and specialized fields of electronics (telecommunications,
audiovisual aids, radio and television, automatic control systems, computers) as well
as with the production of electronic components, arrangements, appliances and systems
for the manufacture of other products.
4. DEPARTMENT OF INFORMATICS
Graduates of this Department are employed in the private and public sector in the
areas of providing software services as well as in the production of software products
(programs and tools).
5. DEPARTMENT OF VEHICLE TECHNOLOGY
Graduates of this Department are in charge of work covering the whole spectrum of
activities related to vehicles (cars, motorcycles and mopeds) in the private and public
sector.
