Death and Life - What is the difference?

Ever so often we come across sudden death. A death of a perfectly healthy young person is always a sad and shaking moment. This is even more so when the death has occoured under unknown conditions. The best example of this would be when someone is found dead in his bed, with no possible explnation as to how it happend. In addition to the sadness and the shock now we are confronted with another emotion. Surprise, Confussion or unacceptability of the situation now takes precedence even over grief. How? how? how? can it happen! There must be an explanation! It is not possible for someone to die like that! What happend???

But............should anything happen for somone to die? Is it not possible that just like a person can live, that the same person can also die? Is it necessary for something to happen for someone to stop living? Let us look at in another more scientific way. What are the possibilities of a highly complicated organism like man, going wrong in one or more systems occationally? Is it not possible for a malfunction to occour to bring to an end a vital bodily function so that death results? After all there must be so many malfunctions, which occour in our bodies all the time unknown to us. It is just that they are not vital enough to cause death.

Which brings us to the original question. Why are we surprised of sudden death? Is it not because that we are so used to life, that we take it to for granted? Is it not because that we do not want to die, that we look at death as something alien? Is it not because we are so used to giving an explanation to almost everything we know, that the lack of it seems so unreal?

Any thoughts of your own?
