Have you ever...
...been at your computer late at night and suddenly realized you hear birds singing, because it's morning?
...been so "into" the book you're reading that you did not hear the phone ringing? Or your kids calling you?
...thought your clock was running 4 hours fast?
...been driving your car and wondered "How on earth did I get here?"
...wondered why the clock on the wall never seems to match your internal clock?
...asked yourself "How could I have possibly been "at it" for 6 hours straight?"
These are just a few examples of hyper-focusing, that unique ability to focus on something so intently that time seems to stop!
Is it intentional?
Does one have to learn how to hyper-focus?
Can one learn to do it?
Does it really mean that one can focus, but is just too lazy?
Hyper-focusing is almost a "defense mechanism". A defense against "Input Overload."
It is the brain's way of having a "break", a "time-out", a chance to do something without hundreds of thoughts bouncing around in your head!
To an ADDer it is a wonderful diversion!
It is like finally having peace and quiet after spending the morning in a pre-school with 30 excited kids!
It's like having your kitchen counters completely uncluttered!
It's like that quietness at night, when the snow is on the ground and the moon is out....just silence!
