About Transvaginal Sonography (TVS)

Transvaginal sonography (TVS) detects structures using ultrasound. It gives a much clearer picture and is therefore much better suited for detecting structures within the abdominal cavity than an abdominal ultrasound. The intent of ovarian screening is to detect ovarian cancers at the earliest possible stage when they are most likely to be cured. The following links show a little bit more about how we use TVS to catch ovarian malignancies.

Early Cancers Caught by TVS Screening

  • Several examples of actual women whose cancers were caught in the early stages thanks to TVS screenings.

  • What physicians use to determine the stage/seriousness of detected abnormalities.

Multiseptated Cysts and Complex Solid Masses

  • Examples of frequent ovarian abnormalities detected using TVS.
