Memorial Service
An estimated 70,000 people attended a memorial service Sunday for the students who were killed or wounded at Columbine High School on Tuesday. Governor Bill Owens, Vice President Al Gore and others delivered tributes to the students and faculty of the school, Gore saying "all of us must change our lives to honor these children, More than ever, I realize every one of us is responsible for all of the children".
The crowd was twice as large as organizers expected. Strangers stood side by side, hugging and crying together and clutching flowers, teddy bears and balloons. 13 white doves were released at the end of the service as the Governor read the names of the 13 victims. Christian entertainers, including Amy Grant, sang at the service, which was held in the parking lot of a movie theater.
