~ BIOGRAPHIES OF THE THIN GROUP ~

Thank you for stopping in. Here you will learn a bit about each of us in THE THIN GROUP. Some of us were even "brave enough" to add our picture!

Hi - my name is Carol and I am known as CJ on the Thin Group and sometimes lovingly called Queen CJ by the girls. Although at this time I don't feel very queenly as I have fluffed off this last year on my weight loss efforts (sometimes I'm good and sometimes I'm not - haven't stayed on the straight and narrow for any good length of time). But I have renewed determination now and this is the year I am going to lose my excess baggage (or most of it anyway). I am 57 years young and married to the most wonderful man in the world, have nine wonderful children, and 7 very special grand-children. I have always been thin (except for a few extra lbs after my pregnancies which I was able to lose after a short amount of time). I quit smoking 16 years ago and gained 60 lbs (eeks!) and am ashamed to say have only really lost and kept off 6 of those lbs to date. I just recently retired in August (1999) from my job with the City after 22 year and I want to start this new timein my life thin again. I think by sticking with my friends here in the Thin Group I will be able to get focused and have success in my weight loss. These girls are my salvation - they are the greatest! (1999)

UPDATE (Dec 2001) Well, since I wrote my bio I actually joined WW and to date have lost 14 ½ lbs. I’m on my way this time – I AM DETERMINED! We have 2 new grandchildren added to our lives – Brandon (5 months) and Rainey (6 months). My husband just retired in June of this year so we are now in the process of building our retirement home in Gaylord, MI. It’s way in the woods and just beautiful!

Hello, I am a 49 year old mother of 4, ages 15-22 from Indiana. I have been happily married to my husband Ken for 23 years. I joined the WW123 program when my doctor discovered that I had high blood pressure and suggested that I lose some weight to control my blood pressure and eventually take me off my medication. I love the program and am working toward my goal, so far I am about half way there. I joined the Thin Group shortly after it was first started and just love this wonderful and caring group. I get so much support from everyone. We believe that laughter and humor help in getting us through the tough times. To get to our goals we take one day at a time and we do it together. (1999)

I am a 53 year old mother of 2 grown children. I am starting a new phase of my life and I choose not to do it being overweight. For years I have been taking care of everyone's needs but my own. It's my turn and the girls on the thin Group have jumped right in to fill this void for me. They are there to cheer when I'm successful and to pick me up when I am down. Got a problem with your diet, post it and several people will jump in with a suggestion. I just know I am going to go through this stage of my life thinner and healthier, thanks to my friends. Hello everyone, my name is Sam, I'm 23 and I live in australia. I am now single and am living on my own for the first time ever, and so I am trying to be a more social person. I study law at uni part-time and working full-time, so I'm fairly busy! I started my weight loss journey back in 1998 following the break up of my engagement, which made me re-evaluate my life. At that time I also moved to a new city, so I took on the opportunity to make a whole new me. After a year, I got down to about 127 (highest 163), and since then have got down to 119. My aim is 114 and I'm going to get there! I have lost lots of inches, and thanks to the 3 FC chatboards, made a whole bunch of new friends. I am also a lot healthier and quite fit (body fat is about 20%). But I know that I couldn't keep progressing towards my goal without the help of the wonderful people in the Thin Group. Together, we are all going to achieve our health and weight loss goals! (1999)

UPDATE (Dec 2001) I've been skinny and I've been big, now I'm somewhere in between and doing my best to adopt a healthier lifestyle. As a Mum to a baby girl born in April 2001, I want to be a shining example of healthy, happy and body confident. I'm bringing exercise and healthy food back into my life after a pregnancy (and several months after!) that had me eating anything that (didn't) move. I'm also a vegetarian and am a far-flung Thinster, residing with my boyfriend and daughter in Australia. I've been a Thinster for more than 2 years now and I'm never leaving - this is the best group! :)

My name is Jo, short for Joanne, freshly divorced and feeling free. Here's my story. My family moved when I was 10 years old. I was very shy and didn't make friends easily and food became my best friend and comfort. In fact, a year later, I went back to my old neighborhood to visit with my old best friend. We were swimming in her pool in our bathing suits and she said (as only one 11-year-old best friend could say to another) that my thighs were sure getting fat!! She was right. I can identify that year as the year I started having a weight problem. Over the years, I was always overweight, even though I tried every diet ever heart of and then some! Through high school and college, I was always 190-something, usually around 195 or 196. Then a few years after college graduation, I was working in the mail department of a large company and they had a big scale to weigh the mail sacks. When no one was around, I stepped on the scale expecting 195 or 196. It read 206! I got the phone book and called the local Weight Watchers branch. Two days later, I joined WW for the first time - the first of many. That was about (yikes!) 15 years ago and I've been up and down and up and down trying to get a handle on this weight loss thing. I'm currently a lifetime member of WW, having lost almost 60 lbs. about a year and half ago, only to be diagnosed with ovarian cancer exactly 4 days after making lifetime and subsequently gaining almost all the weight back again. I'm here to continue the struggle!! One of these days, I'm going to win! (1999)

To this group I'm known as Blunder, a.k.a. Judy. I'm a 57 year old mother of 3 and grandmother of 3. I too have COPD, although I stopped smoking about 15 years ago, the damage was already done. Using food to fill the void left by the cigarettes helped get me where I am today. I have struggled with my weight and yo yoed for years. I know I didn't put it on overnight and it's going to take a long time to get where I want to be. With the support and understanding of the Thin Group, finally, this time I'm on my way to a brighter and healthy future. (1999)

I am a 56 year old mother of two grown and married children. I have 5 precious grandchildren who help to keep me young and lively. I started WW 123 in October of 1998 and had about 30 pounds to lose. At this time I have lost 22 of them, and I feel I have done very well on the program. I feel that half of my success came from all the beautiful, caring people that supported and helped me through the rough times I sometimes had on my weight loss journey. I am now on the maintenance portion at WW and have a few more weeks to go before I become a lifetime member. (1999)
