Sarah - 11/11/00 23:31:56 My Email:sarah_glasgow@hotmail.com How You Found Me: web search | Comments: After months of pain, I was just diagnosed with endo. The doctor wants me to start Lupron, but the insuraance refuses to pay for it. After reading all the other comments, I don't really want to take it anyway. They could not remove it with laser during he laproscopy because of the location and endangering other organs. I don't know what other treaments there are. Is Lupron really that effective?? The doctor said it would take it away, but most of you seem to say that it came back anyway. Suggestions? Please give me any personal advice on where to go from here. Thanks! |

Karen Prinsloo - 10/22/00 12:29:28 My Email:andrep@sai.co.za How You Found Me: search topic-endometriosos | Comments: My story "Endometriosis" My name is Karen Prinsloo and I am from South Africa, Kwa-Zulu-Natal. I am 27 years old. I was surfing the net for stories about endometriosis and came across this interesting site for Endometriosis sufferers and decided to put my story on the net and see if I could share my story and get help from other endo sufferers. I had a normal menstrual history, started menstruating at the age of 12 and had normal periods. At the age of 19 I went on the pill and was on the pill for 7 years, as I got older my periods were normal but I experienced extreme pain during my periods an lower back pain and pain in the lower intestines. I thought this was normal "period pain" that everyone spoke about and I just took aspirin for the pain. When I was 26, in September 1999, I had to undergo an emergency appendectomy through a laparoscope and the surgeon who performed my operation discovered large adhesions and bad endometriosis on the left side of my uterus. A specialist gynae was called in to theatre to look and the problem, he then came to see me after the op and explained the situation and said I must make and appointment to follow up the problem. I saw him about a month later. Then the fun began!! I had the choice of a monthly injection or to take Synarel for three months to decrease the endo and possibly make it easier for him to remove the adhesions with surgery. The Synarel treatment was horrific, my hormones were up the pole and the hot flushe that I experienced were unbearable. I was very good in taking the Synarel and during monthly exams the gynae said the endo seemed to have decreased. He decided, however, that he would still like to remove all the adhesions with surgery, I took synarel for 4 months and had a laparotomy in February 2000, the op went well and I was "Free" of endo. After the op he came to see me and informed me that he had to remove my left fallopian tube as it was all mangled due the endo, this was a bit of a blow to me but he assured me that I would still be able to have children as the right tube was still functi nal. I did not have a period for 5 months and my hormones were still upside down from the Synarel treatment. After many more visits to the gynae and all the bills on top of all the other stress, he eventually put me on Ovral and in August 2000. My periods fi ally started and I have had normal periods for 4 months now. My husband I and I would really like to have a baby and every month is a wait to see if I am pregnant, with only one tube it is a bit difficult and I am getting a bit disheartened as I'm not ge ting any younger. Well, the whole trip was not very pleasant but a learning curve that I suppose I had to go through. I am just grateful that I'm okay now and can still have children. I think that sharing my story can help other people realise that Endo okay and can be dealt with. I do however have questions that I would love to ask and if anyone has any news or answers for me please could you e-mail me and we can possibly start our own little "support group" I want to know if endo can come back after you have had it removed? Is it easy or possible to fall pregnant with only one tube? I would love anyone to get back to me with thoughts or answers of just to chat about their ENDO experience!! please contact me on andrep@sai.co.za or prinslok2@dohho.kzntl.gov.za Thank you All the very best to everyone and hope to hear from you soon regards Karen |

I've had 2 laps (the most current was last Friday) and have been told by my gynecologist I have the worst case of endo he has ever seen. Comforting, huh??!! His only real solution is a hysterectomy since I REFUSE to take Lup on or BCP's ever again . . . as you know it's just NOT worth it! In a weird way, it is comforting to read about your battle with the disease. I guess it makes me feel not so alone in my pain and makes me realize my pain is REAL. Thanks for sharing your story. |
Margared Duarte - 09/27/00 18:48:45 My Email:duartem@excite.com How You Found Me: web | Comments: I took it into my own hand to find out what was wrong with me. I had apathetic doctors and I also had doctor who told me my pain was in my head. This really upsetted me. I finally found a doctor who just listened and sympathized and did a lap on me. Sh could not get most of it out. I did go on lupron and I still have pain time to time. I finally join the endo association and I am taking BCP. I just don't know what to do next. Anyway, I am trying to figure out what naturalistic approach I can take, hat doctor I can see in the NY NJ area? If anyone has any ideas of where I can go from here let me know. I have surrendered this to God. I desire to have children one day, this too I have surrendered to God. |

I experienced a couple of pelvic pains and I to went to my primary doctor and told her my systems they gave me a pap and a pelvic ultrasound and they came back fine. But, I continued to get a pain occasionally. So, I took it upon myself to see a OBGYN, who I told of my problems and what I had experienced. He gave me another pap and requested my records from my primary doctor and suggested to me to start taking BCP's which I was againist because I was on them four years ago and started having bre k through bleeding. He asked me what kind I was on and told me they were no good ( by the way the pill were Ortho Novum 7). He gave me another type to start but I'm not certain about them. My menstrual cycle is quite normal in a sense that it comes eve y month about the same time and I have a normal flow not heavy at all, which accompanies, a hour worth of cramping. But, the OBGYN said I might have a minor case of Endo, but to take the BCP's for six months and come back. Please give me some advise as o what you think I should do. Thanks for listening. |

Comments/Suggestions: Great story - I feel for you! | Comments: I am 32 and single, I have had sever periods since the age of 13 - was always told it happened to some women! 6 years ago I came off the BCP to give my body a break and started getting abdomenal pain every day I saw a gynae and had a lapo. They said I h d an enlarged pelvic pain - cannot do anything for me - stay on BCP permanently until I want to try for children. After 3 years on Depo Provera the pain is back with me every day, since a year ago. I saw another gynae yesterday he reckons I have endo fo sure! I go in for another lap in 2 weeks and if he's right immediate helium surgery to remove the tissue. I am positive as I feel he is doing something to help me and acting quickly. I do wonder about whether to stay on Depo - its been great for me I finally gained weight and have no cycles/no pain/no PMS - but whether it will help in the future who knows! I am reading various sites as it is helpful to know that I am not going nuts! The pain is very real! Thank you. |

JessieRaye - 03/13/00 05:04:18 | Comments: I have always had problems with my periods but never new I had a problem until my senior year in high school. I went to the doctor for a cyst that had burst. Since then I have many problems. I went into emergency surgory because they couldnt find my ovary and tube. It had flip to the back side of my uterus, scar tissue and endo. He wanted to go in and take both but I sign a paperwork saying no. Well they ended up taking it about a year later because I hurt so bad. Then about a year after that another surgo y to clean up endo and scar tissue again. So I only had one tube and the other was block full of scar tissue and endo. Between my boyfreind and I with six doctors telling us that we would never have children naturally. The only way we could would be invet o invertilation. Well that was about 10,000.00 and we didnt have that much money. I had given up on the ideal of having children. I hated being around them,to hear them to hold them. I figured it was easier to hate children than to ever get my hopes up to have them. I guess the reason Im telling my story is because miracle do happen and to always keep your hopes up in regards to be children and health. I finally decided to go to University of Michigan to help with my pain management. I was ready to have th m take all of it out when I told them I was four days late for my period. Since I had high risk of etopic pregnancy she had me take a prego test, it came back postitive. I was overwelmed and really didnt know how to react. exicted, happy, confused, anxious,s ared. It wasnt has easy as I thought it would be of course had to come back a week later to she if everything was doing what it was suppose to be doing and it was. My son is now ten months old and starting to go through terrible twos but I would never cha ge anything becuase he his my miracle son. Anyway good luck and share my story with those who are hopeless. thanks JessieRaye |

Had a lap and found endo, was removed, thought all was o.k. About a year lat r, sick all the time, pain and IBS distroying my life, looked like endo again, went thru all the horrifc tests and opted for histo, found adhesions everywhere, overies stuck to my apendex, had everything removed. Two years later the pain again and IBS and vomiting, did a lap again found adhesions and hernia, 3 months later, spastic IBS, vomiting, nausia and pain- 1 year later more tests found an obstructed large bowel, had surgery and resectioned the bowel and found a tumor, which was endo, you would think after a histo all would be well, I guess not- I pray I can get a life back, I have lived the last 5 years in Dr. offices and would love a change. God bless you all and pray that you journey will be short. |

Judy Collins - 01/24/99 20:21:57 My Email:stowe@eclipse.net How You Found Me: Yahoo Comments/Suggestions: See Below... | Comments: I am a fellow endo sufferer. I'm 39 and have had this disease for well over 20 years. I have an incredibly supportive husband of 12 years, but no children. I've been reading everyone's horror stories on the internet re. their expericence with endo, and say, "Been there, done that!". Because of this disease, my immune system has taken a dive and I have countless allergies and sensitivities to numerous substances, the irritable bowel has turned into a malabsorption problem, I have a heart arrythmia, Fibr myalgia (originally from the Lupron) and flare ups of chronic fatigue. I have also had 4 surgeries, and probably am looking at one in the very near future. The only real relief I have found with all of this is through homeopathic/natural medicines. Befo e I hooked up with my current naturalist - I was eating pain killers and changing jobs a lot (the unaffected work force does not have much compassion for a fellow worker passing out from pain at their desk - they view it as a liability to the company - if I hit my head on the desk on the way down - I might sue them!). Fortunately, I no longer take pain killers on a regular basis - thanks to Cramp Bark and other natural remedies. I had a very good (but extremely expensive) Endocrinologist, however, when I began seeing a homeopathic specialist - the endo Dr. took it apon himself to write a letter to the naturalist telling him he didn't know what he was doing and should leave my care to him. So, my current mission is to find an Endocrinologist who either be ieves in/or practicies natural medicine, along with traditional - in the NJ, NY, PA area. Does anyone have any ideas? If anyone wants the name of the homeopathic Dr. I'm currently using - e-mail me. I'll be happy to share what ever info. I have. Also, I now work for a company whose President suffers from endometriosis - and is a bit more understanding about the really bad days! |

Well I have been through B.C.P., and now I'm on the Depo-Lupron shot for 2 months and it seems like I'm struggling even more. The side effects are the worst!!! The hot flashes, back& eck pain, horrible headaches, etc. I am very glad to know I'm not alone!! I really wish they could find a cure. Changed doctors -- described pain and frustration. First visit he said he suspected endo .. scheduled laproscopy .. confirmed endo. Taking Lupon .. shot #4 tommorrow. Pain is much better. Side effects suck! Can't sleep (nite sweats are bad), headaches are pretty bad (need precription pain killers). Depressed but not sure whether it's the lack of sleep or Lupron?! I know the pain is so much better ... but as a have another hot flash come over me I'm not sure I'll finish the 6-month treatment. |

Kari - 07/30/98 00:51:53 My Email:ck-arnod@cac.net How You Found Me: browsing for support Comments/Suggestions: I been there and... | Comments: Hello, my name is Kari and I am 22 years old, married no children. I've been through basicly everything you've stated except the bleeding during intercourse (but I don't have much sex because of the pain) I was diagonised (sp) when I was 18 howver I had been having problems since I was 12. I went on Depro & Lupron and all they caused was weight gain, I gained a total of 80 to 100 lbs within a 1 1/2. The weight has been hard on my back and hard on my self confidence I've had to buy new clothes and the w ole nine yards. The doctors have basicly told me to have my kids and have my parts removed to hopefully releive my pain. Last December I went through the fertility process (ZIFT) my husband and I have to go to fertility doctors. The procedure was unsuc essful at that time I had my 2 lap. which they found not much new endo. but I was still having extreme back pain. Since then I have been unable to try again for a baby due to the cost. I have started to have the extreme back pains and drainage (even t ough I am on birthcontrol (Nordet) which seem to help in the beginning. along with now mirgaine headaches and depression because of the pain and all the problems this disease is causing me. Please let me know if you have any suggests or if I can help you out in any way. Thanks. Reading these stories make me feel like I am not alone. |
Greg Bosaz - 07/20/98 21:35:57 My Email:bosazga@pweh.com How You Found Me: yahoo Comments/Suggestions: great page! | Comments: I'm the 29 yr old ex-husband of an endo patient who, unfortunately found-out about her problem after it helped (I'm positive) ruin our marriage. It's partially our fault that it happened too quick, but I'm trying to help my (ex)wife now, knowing that it r ally wasn't her fault. I'm also helping because my Mom had this problem (with many others) several years back, so I can understand her frustration (not real-time, but I'm trying). Anyway, she's gonna try Lupron with the hopes that it'll destroy what has r mained on her organs after her Laparoscopy. I found your site quite informative, and will tell my wife about it if she hasn't seen it already. I can only hope that more research is done on Lupron or other alternatives, because it sounds like Lupron can ca se more harm than good. But you don't know until you try. Your site also gives me the patience to help her, with the hopes, of course, that maybe it'll help us as a couple, maybe a family too, but that's not as important as HER! I can only hope that it wa the endo that caused our problems, and that one day soon her pains can end--- temporarily at least. I'll keep doing research and checking the page for new info, but any advice you can give me / us would sure help..... |
Kerry - 06/27/98 20:46:03 My Email:kerrye@worldnet.att.net How You Found Me: searched endo | Comments: I have had this all my life, have had the surgery, and the induced "menopause" - was awful! Now, at 41, am wondering what to do, as symptoms are coming back. Surgery was about 7 years ago, and it took about 7 months + to receover. BCP is what I use now but sometimes I can feel the adhesions swelling and hurting. This disease has really affected my life, and it should have more research money and cure efforts devoted to it. |

michelle J - 06/13/98 08:38:44 My Email:chelle@fm-net.com How You Found Me: browsing endo info | Comments: it really does help to read other women's personal stories about their struggles with endo. i was diagnosed with microscopic endo in january. i strted having symptoms similar to yours and was also misdiagnosed as having irritable bowel 6 years ago. i ha e gone through mutiple trips to the hospital, laparoscopy which showed only many many adhesions, bc pills, and now i am on lupron. it was amazing. i started lupron the end of jan. my symptoms were gone in 1 1/2 months and have been gone ever since. i is hard to deal with the hot flashes and weight gain but i would much rather have that than the excrutiating pain that i was having everyday of my life. i have been having trouble with cost though since my insurance company just does not seem to think i is a necessary treatment. i have one shot to go then i will see wht hapens. thank you for your story. good luck and take care. your are in my thoughts as well as are all the other women out there with the misfortune to have this disease. |

Michele Jansz - 05/31/98 02:13:30 My Email:jansz@worldnet.att.net How You Found Me: Dawn's Endo Forum Comments/Suggestions: Great site- Wonderful! | Comments: Hi, I'm Michele. I was diagnosed with endo in 1990, but had symptoms of the disease since my teen years. I'm 32. I have had 5 laparoscopies. 1 laparotomy and total hysterectomy at 28. Hysterectomy did not erradicate my disease. I have had 2 surgeries or Ovarian Remnant Syndrome. Endo was found in surgery for this complication. I am a fighter!! I have HOPE. We, all of us with this disease, need more research and physicians who specialize specifically in Endo and it's related complications. The battle continues. Women with endo go unrecognized as gifted people with extraordinary coping skills. Best Wishes to you all. |
