A musical production
is not on the daily agenda of Armenian National Committees throughout
the world.
However, a subconscious, as if a magical
necessity for expression brought together all us to comprise this
message from Cyprus. After a few hearings of the songs, people
feel the music expresses their lives and their struggles spiritually.
The translations of Hagop
Jellalian and the poetic expressions by Koullis Alepis of armenian
poetry in the book 'Armenian Anthology' ( publication of the 'Cultural
Society Hamazkain', Greece 1982) marked the threshold of initial thoughts
we had with Doros
Georgiades, long before an attempt was made to add music to some
of the the poems .
Doros virtually 'resurrected' the poems
to musical expressions, which combined with the denominative voice
of Michalis
Hadjiyiannis and the soft voice of Marietta
Mitsidou touched us all. We are obliged to them eternally.
We thank Dr.
Eleni Theocharous, 'Personality Of The Year 1997 of the Armenian National
Committee of Cyprus', for her poem 'Anonymous Homelands'. which is devoted
to the Armenian doctor Arshag Hadzagordzian, whose helicopter, which was
proceeding that of Eleni's, was gunned down by the Azeris during the liberation
struggle of the Armenian people of Nagorno Karabagh.
We would like to take the opportunity
to thank also George Serdaris, Sodia Tsodou, the bouzoukist Marios Ekonomides
, and all the musicians that collaborated with us.
The Armenian poems belong to Vahan
Derian, Missak Medzarents, Vazgen Esayian and Arshag Tchobanian. Two other
poems were written by Daniil Spartalis and Panayiotis Tountas.
We would also like to thank the Cyprus
Popular Bank Culture Center and the cultural department of the Cyprus Ministry
of Education and Culture.
For us in the committee, Krikor Mahdessian,
Louize Aynedjian and Aram Tavitian this project will stay unforgetable.
