The Matsco Companies - www.matsco.com
Matsco is a specialty finance company that offers financing to the dental and veterinary niche markets. Matsco bridges the gap between financing dental and veterinary practices and building successful, profitable ones. Its financial products and business tools work together to help dentists and veterinarians better understand and manage their practice, financial resources, and life, during each phase of their career. Matsco, through its success and customer oriented philosophy, has obtained an exclusive endorsement by the ADA (American Dental Association). |
I joined Matsco and moved from San Diego to the San Francisco bay area primarily to further my career and expand my knowledge of the specialty finance marketplace. As a credit analyst, I evaluated the risk associated with applicants and their request for financing. Requests averaged between $150,000 and $300,000 and could go up as high as $1 million. This required the credit analyst to perform a comprehensive review of the applicant's credit, cash flow and character while remaining sensitive to turn around time and the competition. |
While employed with Matsco, I averaged nearly $7 million per month in underwriting volume. I also took part in many small committees dedicated to improving work flow in the office. I was trained as a fundor and filled-in to manage overflow in that department. |
Matsco is a fast-paced, medium size company located in Emmeryville. The company was recently purchased by Greater Bay Bank (NASDAQ: GBBK), a large community bank organization in the Bay Area. |
Monarch Capital - www.monarchleasing.com
Monarch Capital is a 15-year-old equipment lessor located in San Diego, California. Small Ticket Equipment leasing is 300 billion dollar industry that specializes in the financing of capital equipment for businesses. GE Capital is its market leader (by volume) and the Equipment Leasing Association (ELA) its most comprehensive association. |
I started at Monarch Capital in mid August 1999 as the director of underwriting. Under new ownership, Monarch Capital sought to raise funds from private investors to finance a small portfolio of equipment leases in the San Diego Region. My primary responsibility was to set-up and administer all facets of the operation pertaining to the processing through funding of leases and especially the underwriting function of that process. |
During my employment with Monarch, I packaged and brokered over 5 million dollars in transactions to 3rd party fundors, configured the leasing management software called System One, designed and maintained the company web site, and facilitated client requests. |
My involvement with the investor fund project was multi-faceted. All specific underwriting guidelines, collateral evaluation procedures, and rate structures associated with the offering prospectus needed to be developed in order to achieve the targeted investor returns and profitability. |
The work environment at Monarch Capital is that of a small team. This has enabled me to set foot in many aspects of the business and discover the needs of different departments as they work together to render service to its clients. |
PinnLease, USA
PinnLease, USA is a small-ticket leasing company which, at inception, was formed as a division of PinnFund, USA, a wholesale mortgage lender with over 400 employees nationwide. I joined PinnLease, USA to entertain a new relationship with a 3rd party lessor while ramping up our mortgage lending sales force to cross-sell the leasing product. |
Most of my early duties were project oriented. I gathered information on the industry and developed relationships with a number of 3rd party lessors. In addition, I compiled, edited and drafted a number of educational guides for our sales force and occasionally presented findings at seminars and company conferences. |
PinnLease, USA made its ascension in early 1999 when it hired an executive branch to spur the division's growth. I became funding manager and was responsible for the funding operation and managed 2 employees. |
Migros Bank - www.migrosbank.ch | Letter of Recommendation
As part of an educational program offered by Foothills College in San Francisco, this three-month internship focused on language and banking. The bank is located in Lausanne, Switzerland. |
The first six weeks were spent interacting with clients working along-side tellers. Teller duties involved inter-banking procedures such as check portfolio, ATM maintenance, and domestic/foreign money orders. Also part of the internship program included opening new accounts and helping customers with basic loan and investment options. Lastly, I learned much about investment, monetary exchange, bank machinery, and the relationship between banks, people, the government, and businesses. |
The second 6-week phase involved mortgage operations. Some of the skills I acquired at that office include the establishment of protocols for the concession of mortgage agreements, the establishment of credit confirmations, written communication with land registries for the inscription of land ownership, and the formation and documentation of new client files. More importantly, I learned about document management, punctuality, employee relations, and the stress and pressures of deadlines. |
