These are the latest news I've
received...
Here’s the inside line on what’s happening:
Limited Seats: Last year, the US Open of Supercross was a sellout. This year, it’s heading in the same direction. More than half of the tickets in the MGM Grand Garden Arena are already gone. If you’re planning on attending the US Open, and don’t have your tickets yet…better hurry! (The race is October 8, 9 and 10).
Bigger Purse, Committed Riders: Last year's quarter-million dollar pay-out has been increased to $300,000 (with $100,000 going to the winner!) The superstars of supercross are training, riding and putting on their race faces for the richest event in motorcycle history. When the gate drops, every one of them has a shot at the biggest pay-off of their career!
Bigger Track: Be glad you’re not riding. The ’99 track is longer (it actually leaves the building), plus it’s tougher, and nastier. There are bigger obstacles, larger jumps and deeper whoops. These guys are going to earn their money—and then some!
Expanded Schedule: The US Open has been expanded to a three-day event. The weekend now includes Friday night, with an hour-long Freestyle Exhibition, 80cc practice sessions and rider qualifying for the newly introduced 4-stroke race. (All reserved seats are $25 for Friday).
More Souvenirs: Last year many of the souvenirs were sold out, even before the Sunday finale. That’s probably going to happen again. To make sure you take home a piece of the US Open, you can order official T-shirts, sweatshirts, hats and videos directly through the US Open On-Line store.
Great Rooms: The riders stay at the MGM Grand. So do most of the spectators. You can go from your room to the track---without leaving the building. Autograph signings in hallways and elevators are a pretty common thing at the US Open.
Killer Parties and Debuts: It’s the last (and biggest) race of the year. Once it’s over, everybody cuts loose. Special events include the usual VIP parties, plus clips from the latest Fox video, "Wrathchild" and the premiere of a new Crusty film. House of Blues and Studio 54 are also rocking Sunday night! (Monday is a holiday).
And it’s Vegas! The US Open is the only race in the world where you
can actually place a bet on your favorite rider. Last year one of the people
who put money on eventual winner Damon Huffman reportedly went home with
more than $17,000. Plus there are shows, magic and 24-hour
entertainment that will quickly fill up your 3-day weekend. (You can
sleep when you get home, right?).
The US Open. It’s the world’s richest motorcycle race, held in the entertainment capital of the universe. And it’s coming up soon!
