4.843et / 323.35mph
ENGLISHTOWN, NJ -- Seven-time NHRA Funny Car champion John Force made one of the all-time greatest passes in drag racing history when he scorched the Englishtown quarter-mile in his Castrol GTX Mustang at an incredible 323.35 mph!!! - nearly five miles per hour faster than the previous best Funny Car speed of 318.58 mph by Cruz Pedregon.
Not only is it the fastest Funny Car pass ever by a wide margin, it's also the fastest run in NHRA history, quicker than Top Fuel driver Cory McClenathan's 322.92 mph, set earlier this year in Phoenix.
Force, whose previous best effort was a tire-smoking 5.89, ripped off the record-shattering-speed pass with a 4.843 effort, at the time, the third-quickest e.t. ever.
However, Pedregon grabbed the No. 1 qualifying spot with a 4.832, the second quickest pass ever, behind his own 4.819, set earlier this year in Houston. Pedregon's speed was a "mere" 313.15, after having run 316.67 on his 4.89 pass earlier in the day.
