Factory gray GT Fiero wheels stripped, polished, painted, and clearcoated! The entire process takes about 4 weeks to complete.
Step1 Stripping the old paint and clearcoat was accomplished with aircraft stripper. This is real nasty stuff so if you try this get some good chemical gloves, goggles, and a chemical apron. NO JOKE!
Step2 Wheels with paint and clearcoat completely removed. Looking better already but still has all the machine lines which needs completly sanded out.
Step3 Wheel being polished. The sanding process is very slow. Plan on a few good days to get all the machine lines out. I used 240-320-400-800-1000 and finished with 0000 steel wool. Also, I used a Dremel Contour Sander to help with the process.
Step4 Wheels being painted with Sebring Gray paint. I chose this color because it looks real slick on the Chrysler Sebring. The clearcoat is applied 30 minutes later. After 4 coats of base, 3 coats of clear poly, I baked the wheels for 12 hours under 4 500 watt quartz lights!
To keep the wheels clean, I use Mothers Aluminum polish on the polished area and Wax Shop Super Glaze on the paint.
