Thankyou for you taking the time and the interest, to read about our exciting category.
My name is Leigh Warren, sometimes referred to as the father of 2 Litre Sports Sedan racing in Australia but more commonly known as the creator of the 2 Litre (and under) Sports Sedan Series (Australia).
The 2 Litre Sports Sedan Series (Australia) has been running successfully in Victoria since 1992, Queensland since 1995 and NSW since 1996. The series basically started when I was competing in the Super Mini Series (1991) and noticed that people were becoming frustrated at not being competitive against V8's, Rotaries and larger horsepower producing vehicles and constantly having to check their rearview mirrors.
So upon presenting the idea to a few competitors I ran with the concept and with the help of certain people such as Mark Diggerson the series was born with 38 cars lined up for the inaugural race meeting at Winton Motor Raceway in North East Victoria, Australia and the rest they say is history.
We believe it is time to show the rest of the world what most others including Australia already know, 2 Litre Sports Sedans are the Sports Sedan class to get into and are "Simply the best". For those who are unsure what Sports Sedans are, to put it simply they are modified Touring Cars or those that are homologated by the F.I.A. as group A.
The series runs 3 classes as follows
Class A - 1601 to 2000cc, Class B - 1301 to 1600cc, Class C - Up to 1300cc thereby allowing many engines sizes plus the ability to compete/race against other people with similar lap times. Please Note that engines running Turbos or Superchargers must multiply their engine capacity by the multiplication factor as set down by CAMS. We run to the Sports Sedan regulations as laid down by CAMS which includes that all competitors place their name on the side rear and rear windows plus each car carry the state of origin and class (engine size) for which they compete in.The points system runs as follows (only for registered members)...
1pt - Pole position, 1 pt - Highest qualifier in each class; 20pts - 1st place in race and then down to 20th position who collects 1pt.Qualifying points are given because qualifying takes up half of a race weekend. Class points are also given with 10 points for 1st in class down to 1 point for 10th in class however class points are tallied over the course of the year. Outright points are tallied over the course of the race weekend to determine that weekends Overall and class winners and also over the course of the year to determine the Outright Champions.
The points are kept at 1pt increments so as to keep the Championship close and alive throughout the year with most years Champions being determined at the last meeting of the year.
Our engines are measured and sealed (by member of the club) so as to dispel any rumours or complaints. New members are allowed a two-race grace period before having to have their engines sealed.
We have a somewhat unique feature in this series in that there are no clicky groups and although we are very competitive on the track we are also like a large family. This is brought about by people helping others when problems arise, thus making sure that where possible, people can be back on the track for the next race, this keeps the fields large plus keeps competitors coming back. This has been proven by the number of competitors returning when they find that they can compete in races where the position they finished in is the position that they had to race to achieve, the result: No Sunday drives (okay I know that the races are held on Sundays - but you know what I mean).Thank you for your time.
Yours in Motorsport
