Entering Fort Francis, Ontario
with 49 Hudson Super 6 in summer of 1951 just before going to CINCPACFLT
(stationed in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii with Evaluation Group Pacific Fleet
where we wrote the Statistical History of the Korean War)
Our restored 1954 Hudson
Hornet Hollywood that we enjoyed for many years. This car was a dragster
in Quebec, Canada. It was entered in six races and came in the money in
four. The decals indicating the wins, although deteriorating, are still
on the right rear quarter window. The interior of the car was stripped,
including removing the sun visors, heater, and radio. The original seats
and trunk hinges were substituted with those from a Wasp to reduce the
weight. The skirts were cut off the pistons making them 3 ring pistons
instead of 4 ring in order to reduce the friction. The engine, however,
was still standard bore.
Before restoration and just
sort of an old, faded and tired champion dragster. Ben Severance, pictured
here, was a friend that let me keep at his place near Plattsburgh, NY for
few days to get mufflers to replace straight pipes for drive home to VT.
Dorothy felt the need to
overhaul her SuperJet. Talk about shade tree mechanics.
