1968 Mustang EnginesAn overview of the engines available in the 1968 model year
Please scroll down 200 CID "T" Code 6 CLY. The 200 cid 6 cylinder has been used in many Ford Vehicles. It has been standard equipment in the Fairlanes-Falcon and Falcon Futuras.Upgrades for the 1968 200 cid engine included a dual inlet air cleaner that would draw in warmed air by the exhaust manifold or cooler air from under the hood-or a combination of booth,thus giving quicker warm-up,reduce carburetor icing and lower emissions.
289 "C" Code V-8The 289 is the most popular engine in the '60.The 289 is a lightweight,powerful and easy to maintain motor.This motor was dropped in the late 1968 model year in favor of the 302.Information given to me places the last 289's installed in July of '68.Given this my Fastback has a build date of 24 July in the N.J. plant.Could it be one of the last few off the assembly line.I don't know-but I wouldn't trade that little 289 for all the 5.0 in the world!
230HP-302cid-V4-"J"code EngineThere are two versions of this motor.One a 210 HP with a 2v carburetor(9.0 to 1 compression) and ran on regular fuel and a 230 HP 4v(10 to 1 compression) option which ran on Premium fuel.The 302 was tagged with the nickname of "Challenger" and with its compact size and light weight soon became a Ford favorite.
390cid-335 HP-V4-"S"code EngineThe 390 Big Block is sought after motor in the 1968 Mutang-Pure Muscle.The 335 HP Gt motor gets its extra "kick" from special Carburetor-camshaft and ignition parts.
