In 1968, to help bolster sales of the Mustang, Ford Motor Company
offered two different "Sprint Mustang Packages". As a Sprint buyer, you had
a choice of Sprint Package "A" or Sprint Package "B". Sprint Package "A"
consisted of:
The option of a six-cylinder or eight-cylinder engine, included the
C-shaped side striping, wheel lip moldings, full wheel covers and a pop-open
gas cap.
Package "B" consisted of:
Eight-cylinder engine only, included the C-shaped side striping, wheel
lip moldings, pop-open gas cap, but replaced the full wheel covers with
argent painted Styled Steel wheels and added E70 Wide Oval white sidewall
tires and grile-mounted fog lamps.
According to information gathered by J.R. Gillespie, other options, such
as the Tutone (black striped) hood, the Interior Decor Group, and the hardtop
vinyl roof could be combined with the Sprint Package. From Kevin Marti,
author of Mustangs By The Numbers, there were 25,012 Sprint Package "A"
Mustangs and 15,106 Sprint Package "B" Mustangs built in 1968.

And another e-mail from my buddy Roarn'
Subject:68 sprint
Date:Thu, 28 Sep 2000
Hey this is Roarn,
We had a member join the club with an original unrestored 68 sprint. Ford
called it their " see the light sale" in the spring and summer of 1968. For
the 1968 mustang, the sprint package provided the GT looks without the GT
price tag. And the sprints were available with six cylinder engines and two
barrel V8's.
The Sprint package differed by cylinder count, with sixes getting a C-stripe
and pop open gas cap (non GT identification) and full wheel covers. On V-8
sprints, GT fog lights were added, styled steel wheels with wide oval tires
replaced full wheel covers and pop open gas caps (again no GT badges) were
added. Basically, the 68 Sprint mustangs were low-buck GT's, you got the GT
looks without the cost of the GT's four barrel engine and heavy duty
suspension.
Hope this helps, will get pic of members sprint for website.

Rob
Thanks for the e-mail Roarn.

From Mark in Ohio
Some of the GT features of my Mustang made me wonder if there was
something
special about this car so I purchased a Marti Auto Works report. Sure
enough my suspicions were right; it was produced with the "Sprint
Promotion
B Package" and sold in the spring of 1968 during the Ford promotional
sale
called "See the Light Sale". This car was built in San Jose and
included
the following options:
C-4 Select Shift Cruise-O-Matic
E70x14 Wide Oval Tires
White Sidewall Tires
Power Steering
AM Radio
Tinted Glass
Deluxe Belts
Argent Styled Steel Wheels
289-2V
Fog Lamps
I completed the restoration of my Mustang in 2005; the only change I
made to
the car was the addition of the Shelby wheels which I really think set
this car apart from other 68 coupes.
