"I've been drawing for as
long as I can remember" he says. Art was his best school subject and this
enabled him to enrol at the School of Visual Art in Sydney, where he specialised
in sport and mechanical illustration. "I have always been interested in
motorsport and when given a brief to draw a car I discovered this was the
best way to express myself in art" Greg says, "I didn't know anything about
historic cars but I liked their shapes and I spent many hours experimenting".
Like
all great artists Greg paints with zeal. This intensity shows in his extraordinarily
vibrant works, which depict both past and present grand prix cars and their
drivers. The detail, accuracy and colour are stunning; to a degree where
his paintings are increasingly being sought after by international collectors.
His versatility does equal justice to modern and historic racing cars,
sports and touring cars as well as grand prix motorcycles.
Greg is based in Sydney,
but in 1994 he was able to open a studio in Itlay, not far from the famous
Monza Autodromo. Greg admits to a passion for all things Italian, inlcuding
the scarlet ferraris which he painted many times, both the early models
driven by Ascari as well as the modern cars of Villeneuve and Schumacher.
He was priveleged to visit the Ferrari factory and observe how the cars
were built and some of his works are displayed in the nearby art shop.
Today, he divides his time between Italy and Australia.
Currently, Greg is broadening his market through working for private and commercial clients. His range of work includes book and magazine covers, race posters, advertising material, collector's plates, prestigious limited edition prints and of course, his orginal paintings.
Greg's orginal artworks are painted in gouache (tempera) on artboard. Most works are completed with the use of brushes, and in some cases an airbrush is also used to add finishing touches.
