26/9/99 Minardi Scores points in incredible race!
In an incredible race, Johhny Herbert scores Stewart Ford's first ever win, finishing ahead of Jarno Trulli's Prost and the other Stewart of Rubens Barrichello. After a mammoth crash on the first lap which involved Pedro Diniz flipping after Wurz ran into him, avoiding Hill's sick Jordan, Frentzen lead from the McLarens and Ralf Schumacher. After a small shower of rain, McLaren bought Hakkinen in to put wets on, the wrong descision of the time, resulting in Hakkine being way back. A bad pitstop from Ferrari wleft Eddie Irvine back in the pack as well. After pitting together, Frentzen came out ahaed of Coulthard, only for the Jordan to suffer a failure two corners later. Coulthard later spun off, leaving Ralf Schumacher in the lead. Ralf pitted, putting Fisichella in the lead, and on the way to victory until he spun off. Ralf Schumacher regained the lead, only to suffer a tyre blow out, putting him in 5th behind the Minardi of Luca Badoer.
Meanwhile Johnny Herbert took the lead, and Badoer looked set for fourth spot until an engine blow out withthe end in sight. Never fear, Marc Gene in the other Minardi was in fifth spot until the second last lap, where Mika Hakkinen passed him for 5th. However, Gene held off the Ferrari of Irvine to get sixth spot and one world championship point. This was Minradi's first points since 1995, and a cause for a celebration. Well done Minardi and drivers Marc Gene and Luca Badoer. Only an engine gremilen robbed us of fourth spot.
25/9/99 Frentzen on pole
Heinz Harald Frentzen takes pole position from the McLarens of David Coulthard and Mika Hakkinen in an exciting wet-dry qualifying session. The Ferraris are well down in the pack, and rain is expected for the race. Marc Gene was fourth at one stage, but ended up towards the back, with both Minardis beating the Arrows.
