2000 European Formula One Grand Prix
Nurburgring, Germany
June 16, 2000. Round 6. 67 laps,
305.252kms race distance.
Overcast, Rain - 10 degrees Celsius.
1/ Michael Schumacher (Ferrari);
2/ Hakkinen (McLaren); 3/ Coulthard
(McLaren);
4/ Barrichello (Ferrari); 5/ Fisicella (Jaguar); 6/
De La Rosa (Arrows)
A masterly and devastating win for the superb
Michael Schumacher in wet and slippery conditions. He had lapped everyone except
second placed Mika Hakkinen!
To Mika's credit, he was about to lap 3rd placed Coulthard and Barrichello in fourth.
The wet, however, belongs to Schumacher, highly reminiscent of the late great Ayrton
Senna. Like Senna, Schumacher outshines the rest of the pack in two important areas
in races like this one - the ability to drive hard and fast in the wet, and his ability to
carve up and overtake the backmarkers.
With Michael Schumacher now on 46 points in the Drivers Championship and Hakkinen now
on 28 points, he is dominating the season, with this the sixth round of 2000.
Rumours - Mercedes will not be supplying Prost with engines in 2001. Peugot are negotiating with Prost, after a Japanese businessman has bought the Peugot F1 engine facility.
