Wayne's 4x4 project For now this page is just a copy of a post i left on the MTS message board. i add some pictures and more details when I get time.

           I though I would give everyone the lowdown on my Cad 4x4 project. The project started about a year ago and hasn't made much progress since
 It all started when I cam across a deal on a Cadillac 500 short block that was
 too good to pass up. At the time I didn't know about MTS or after market high performance parts for the cad 500. The only performance parts I could find were the edelbrock manifold and an electric fuel pump. I managed to get the car together anyway. After stuffing in a Hubert Cam a holly 750 and new set of slicks I ran some descent mid 7s on the 1/8 track at L and L dragway.
   After I busted the third transmission bell housing " my car would twist coming out of the hole" I decided I needed something more than traction bars to  keep this baby running straight. About this time the new owners of the track  wanted anyone running faster than 8.0 to have a roll cage in the car as well,  so I decided to drop the project and start something else. My wife had wanted me to lift her 1983 Blazer. Actually it's a GMC Jimmy but  it looks like a blazer. So I decided to build her a real truck something I could borrow on the weekends if you know what I mean. I started by pulling the factory 305 and set my 500-cad engine in. Its just setting there I haven't bolted it in yet. My wife likes older trucks so when she found a 67 Chevy I  bought it for her; it came with an extra bed. Next with the help of half the neighborhood I pulled the body off the Blazer and set the cab from the 67 on the blazer chassy. The mounts were fairly close so I had little trouble lineing everything up.
           I began work on the cab sanding and painting. About the time I get it finished low and behold my wife finds an even older truck. A 1962 Chevy. So off goes the 67 cab. This time I went ahead and blasted primed and painted the frame  before I put the 62 cab on. Next I add a set of 39-inch mud bogger tires. That's about as far as I have got with the project. My wife now thinks she wants a 55, 56 or 57 cab so I'm afraid to do much with the 62 .
           That aside I still have a lot of problems to work out on the truck. First the wheelbase of the blazer was 108 inches. While the wheel base of the 62 was
115. This makes the bed 7 inches to long and the back fenders and stepsides    don't line up just right. I haven't decided if I will extend the frame and drive
shaft or shorten the bed.
        My next major problem is that the transfer case is built for a 700r4, Or a
 turbo 350. I would like to get a turbo 400 in there but I'm not sure how to go
 about getting a turbo 400 with a tail shaft short enough to match up with my
 transfer case, much less bolt up. I may have to have a beefed up turbo 350
 built.
     On the up side I have built two very nice step side trailers out of the parts
 left over from the 67 and 62 frames and beds.
As if I didn't already have enough to do I plan on rebuilding the Cad with one  of the MTS stroker Kits that I hope to buy this summer.
           Well that's about it. My project is currently a paperweight but one day when   the time & money gets right it will be a beast.
