The Restoration Progress Week 14, 15 16 and Beyond!

10/30/97 Thursday

Finished re-upholstering all the seats except the drivers seat today. I pick up the Beetle tomorrow morning. I will finish  re-upholstering the drivers seat and install the head liner, carpet and floor mats this weekend. I also need to put on the body moldings. After I finish the interior, I will take it to a local VW Air-cooled Shop to replace the main seal in the engine and work on the suspension. At this rate, the Beetle should be close to being finished by the end of November!

11/01/97 Saturday and 11/02/97 Sunday

I got the Beetle back Friday. I put on all the body moldings and the Driver and Passenger door panels and levers. Also I have started installing the headliner. The headliner installation is messy and no fun. Patience is the key in doing this job. It will probably take me about 10 to 15  hours to do this part of the restoration.

The Headliner Installation has proved challenging. If you can afford to have an expert do this part of the restoration I recommend it!

111/11/97 Tuesday

I have been working on the Beetle all weekend, Monday and Today. I finished the headliner installation, installed the carpet, rear quarter pop-out windows, rear window (I had a auto glass company install rear window at my house), put down the floor mats, installed all the door panels, and repainted some of the seat parts that were faded. I have put the seats back in the Beetle and drove it over to Slug Bug to get several other things done on it. Please go to my Work Plan for details on what they are doing.

11/18/97  Tuesday

More Suspension and Engine Work will need to be done on the Beetle. Once Slug Bug tore it down they found more things that needed to be repaired or replaced. Such is the way of a 31 year old automobile. The muffler, spark plug wires, fire wall installation, and clutch plate will need to be replaced. Also the fly wheel needs to be resurfaced. The front suspension will need new beams, bushings, control arm and bearings. I should have the Beetle back Saturday and will finish doing some interior work then.

2/5/98 Thursday

The Beetle now has a new horn ring and a Kenwood Stereo with a single speaker. I am also going to add a package tray. Does anyone know where I can get a hold of a Bud Vase with ducks painted on it rather than flowers? Let me know.

4/17/98 Friday

The Beetle continues to run like a champ. I drive it to Work on Fridays and on the Weekends for fun. I cannot go anywhere these days with out at least a couple of people sometimes several gathering around and commenting how the beetle looks so new. I think the New Beetle is generating a lot of interest.
