Well, you know I had always wished that I had documented the transformation of the EX more fully - more pictures would have given a better idea of the work that went into it. Be careful what you wish for, I guess. I now have a project bike again.
This weekend at Willow Springs, I took the EX along so my sons Brandon (20) and Sean (15) could get some riding time. Brandon is already a pretty good rider, so Sean got first dibs on riding Saturday. He was picking it up real fast, and asked if he could tool over to Streets of Willow. I said sure, just take it easy. Well, there must have been a misunderstanding, because he laid it down going too fast and hitting some gravel on the road.
Sean ended up with a bruise on his hip and rash on his elbow. The EX has major body damage, broken mirror and turn signal, the handlebar is bent, the can came off the header, which is bent, the brake pedal is bent, and somethings wrong with the front end - it kinda swims or shimmies now. The tank got some paint scraped off and the grip on the right side is worn down. My gloves got the palms ground down (Kevlar is a good thing). Anyway, here's some pix and then I'll talk about why this is a good thing.
On the bright side: I get to have fun making a wreck look good again; I was too lazy to work on the carbs - now it'll be easy - I'm even getting a jet kit; I'll be replacing the stock pipes with a muzzy; the tweaked front end gets an F2; I think the swingarm might need to be replaced with a ZX6, too (good thing I didn't buy tires); the fairing gets cut down to acommodate clip-ons; might as well get rearsets, too; you know, the seat just doesn't feel right, either - hmm, Sargent?; the possibilities are endless. It'll still be yellow, but most of it is going to be very different. Stay tuned - the digicam will be getting used plenty in the next month or so.
