Seven-time NASCAR Winston Cup champion. Missed 8th in '95 by 34 points to Jeff Gordon. Not from a lack of trying. He finished the last 10 races in 9th or better, including two wins and three 2nds. 1979 Winston Cup Rookie of the Year. Won Winston Cup championship following season, becoming first driver in sport's history to win Rookie of the Year honors and Winston Cup championship in successive seasons.
