Pictures of the sailboat I built with my cousins

The sailboat pictured below is named "Swaney". It belongs to a class of sailboat called the "Town Class", or nicknamed "Townies". The boat is 16 1/2 feet long. It was originally built sometime in the late 1930's. The boat had belonged to our Grandfather until he passed away. At that time the boat was in terrible shape. Much of the wood had rotted away and the sails and most of the fittings needed replacement My cousin Matt then began the very ambitious project of rebuilding the boat. The plan (simply put) was to deconstruct the old boat, down to each individual piece of wood, then build a copy of each piece and reassemble the boat. He enlisted the help of most members of our family and several friends. The entire process took two years. The completed boat conforms to all of the original Town Class specifications and now competes every summer in the Town Class racing circuit. Last year Matt and his brother Chris placed 4th in the Town Class Nationals.

Below are pictures of Swaney in various stages of construction. The last two pictures are of her maiden voyage.
