July 14th Meeting

Attending were Jim Clarkson driving his Ferrari 328, Steve Karapetian driving his Ferrari 308 GT4, Tim Simmons driving his Alfa Romeo Veloce and Jack O'Brien driving his MGA. Also in attendance were John Hauser, John Harrill, Mike Moogk, Bob Moogk, and Blake Frazier.

Topics of discussion were Blake's interest in a joint driving event with the Nissan Club as well as compiling a registry of all the sports car clubs in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. John Hauseragreed to lead any interested in participating in the Time Speed Distance Rally in Statesville July 18th. John's starter bit the dust on the way out so he had to catch a ride to Statesville with Tony Vrsecky in his MG.

Jack O'Brien along with Steve Karapetian discussed the upcoming trip to Road Atlanta for the Ferrari 355 and the Historic Challenge races August 1st and 2nd. Jack has made reservations at the Holiday Inn in Gainsville. Anyone interested please call Jack or Steve. Going to the races that weekend from Corsa Rossa are Jack O'Brien, John Hauser, Thor Merchandani, Victor and Indy Merchandani, Jim and Dorothy Clarkson, and Steve Vaughn, and Miriam and Kate Karapetian. Participating will be Steve Barney, Steve Karapetian, Greg Dickson and Tom Jones.Ferrari Challenge

Steve Barney and Foreign Cars Italia are fielding four Ferrari 355s in this years Ferrari Challenge series. There are approximately 12 teams competing. The Races have included Homestead Florida, Houston Texas, Montreal Canada, Lime Rock Connectiut, and will continue with Road Atlanta Georgia, Denver Colorado and Barcelona Spain. The Drivers are Tim Robertson, Matt Drendel, Leo Hindery, and Marvin Jones. The crew members are Greg Dickson and Eddie Baker for Drendel's car, Tom Jones and David Clark for Hindrey's car, Jay Wilson and Charlie Snead for Marvin Jones' car, and Tom Jackson and Steve Karapetian for Robertson's car. The sponsors of the Foreign Cars Italia Team include Speed Vision, Commscope, Discovery Channel, Asprey, Shell, Pirelli, Perugina. Every car must run out of a dealership team so if you are ready to rumble call Foreign Cars Italia.

This is the first year Foreign Cars Italia has competed in the Challenge series. Other teams include Ferrari of Washington, Wide World of Cars of New York, the Collection of Florida, Shelton Ferrari ofFlorida, Ferrari of Houston, Ferrari of Beverly Hills, Ferrari of San Fransico, Ferrari of Denver, the Canadian and Argentine teams came up for Montreal, Ferrari of North America runs a single car with the CEO of Ferrari of North America in the driver's seat. There is also a paralized driver, Carol Hollfelder racing a specially equiped 355.

Steve Karapetian gave a short talk and an exquisite slide show of the 355 series and the historic competition cars racing in the series. Photographs were of the Montreal race run prior to the Montreal Formula One Grand Prix and slides were of the Lime Rock Ferrari 355 and Historic Challenge races.

Be sure to mark the 1st and 2nd of August on your calendar and zoom south of the border to Road Atlanta with the rest of us for an unforgetable weekend with historic and current Ferrari driven in anger with thundering V12s, V10s, V8s and classic Columbo four cylinders screaming at full song through the Georgia countryside for what is probably the largest East Coast Ferrari event of 1998.

Ciao....................Formula One Schumacher and Irvine are hot on the tails of Hakinan and Coulthard of McClaren. Irvine has seven podium finishes and Schumacher has one the Argentine, Canadian, French and British Gran Prix. Ferrari is 3 points behind in the Constructors Championship and Schumacher is 2 points behind in the driver's championship.
