Big, Beautiful Bentleys!
You don't see this every day: The first week of May, Winston-Salem was graced by about three dozen vintage Bentleys.
Brookstown Inn near Old Salem served as the base station for The American Vintage Bentley Meet. Bentleys from all over the United States and other parts of the world had gathered for several days of mountain touring and track events at VIR.
The cars gathered represented a significant part of automitive history: There were about twenty pre-war era open cars, ranging from vintage 1923 to 1931. Among them was the very first Bentley offered for sale to the public, as well as cars with amazing track history.
There were also several closed Bentleys, including vintage as well as current models. Those of us who were fortunate enough to catch a glimpse of these magnificent automobiles, or even listen to their awe inspiring engines notes agree that this was a very significant event in the Triad. And those of you who couldn't be there in person can catch a flavor of the automotive splendor through Richard Hipwood's fabulous pictures.

Living Ferrari Legend comes to Corsa Rossa
Whatever you do, don't miss the June 10th meeting! Steve Barney of Sport Auto, a name synonymous with Lamborghini and Ferrari in the Piedmont Triad and environs, will give a talk at the meeting. The topics include Mr. Barney's Mille Miglia competition drive and "Bella Macchina - The Art of Ferrari".
Mr. Barney was for a long the premier authorized Ferrari, Maserati, Alfa Romeo and Porsche dealer in the Triad, and is now running an exclusive Lamborghini dealership in Summerfield, NC. He is also a former Senior Ferrari Concourse Judge, and lived and worked in Italy during the "Golden Era" of the Italian GT cars. Mr. Barney has always been a strong and faithful Corsa Rossa supporter and we're tickled pink - no, make that "tickled racing red" - to once again have him back as our featured speaker. Should be a memorable evening.
