30 some odd happy souls gathered in Kernersville. We had a grand time and had Ms Brunner and her son in from Hickory. She owns a Milano Alfa Romeo and a Saab. We watched Sebring 1963 and Dave, Byron and Bill's Video Virginia International Raceway 2000 Reunion. We saw Dana Loomis in his GTV, Peter krause in his Fiat, Al Taylor in his BMW, David BradyHouse in his BMW just to mention a few racing their steeds at VIR.
Jack O'Brien and Dan and Teri Emmi gave a report on the tour from Reynolda to their house after the October 14th Festival. Jim Clarkson says the Dash Plaques are in and we have 40 entries including 9 Alfa Romeos, a 360 Modena and several other Italian cars. Lee Davis gave a short talk and handed out flyers on the Sunday Morning October 15th breakfast and drive to the Sportscar Races at VIR. This will be great fun.
Jim Clarkson told us about his recent trip to the Spa Gran Prix and we wish Bob and Beth Snow and Dan and Teri Emmi a Safe and eventful trip to the US GRANPRIX in Indianapolis. This weekend was the MAARC driving school and next weekend is the US Gran Prix.

Ciao, John Hauser
I've been looking for a 164 for about 3 months now. A couple of weeks ago I drove a 1991 164L (Paul Kemp's) in Chapel Hill and really liked the car. However that one had 110000 miles on the clock and the paint was beginning to fade. I got involved in the bidding on a 1991L on Ebay, but in the hour before the bidding closed, the car went over book value, and I have a hard time paying more than book for a car sight unseen.
I found several 164s for sale at Paul Spruell Alfa/Lamb/Lotus in Atlanta. After speaking with Paul, I was convinced that the 94 or 95 LS model was the real bargain in the range. The car was much improved by a redesign in 1994, eliminating problems like the hydraulic cam-belt tensioner and better stepper motors in the automatic climate control. The later models are also 4-cams, with 24-valve heads (210HP versus 183HP).
Spruell had 2 164LSs so I flew to Atlanta last Friday, drove it, and was hooked! I drove it home that afternoon.
The car is a 1994 LS with 90,000 miles. Although that is high mileage, I am only the second owner of the car. It was purchased new from Paul Spruell Alfa and maintained regularly by them. It is Black with Burgundy leather interior with very few cracks. There are 3 dime-sized dings on otherwise perfect paint. The only thing that does not work on it is the anti-theft system. In the week that I have had the car I continue to be surprised at how modern and vice-free it is. And yes, it does sound like shredding canvas during acceleration!
The bad news is that I will be in Tampa on business on October 10, and will miss the Corsa Rossa meeting. I will be at the European Car Day, no matter what. Ciao.
Every month CorsaRossa receives dozens of emails from people who have questions about their Italian cars. The questions are things like parts inquiries, questions about local mechanics, directions to events, and even tips on hot roads and spirited driving in the area. Thor Mirchandani and John Hauser usually end up passing the questions to somebody knowledgable in any given field, but in order to serve Italian car enthusiasts better, we now have a contact list by marque, so a bewildered sports car enthusiast can direct a question straight to the person who has the answer. Check it out and keep those questions coming!

There will be a woodwind Trio and a Brass Quintet playing at the October 14th festival. The woodwinds will play 12-3 and the Brass 11-2 alternating between the village and the house.
We are excited about our sponsors and the number of calls we are receiving as well as the response to the web site. We had one person to call with seven cars recently and asked which 3 he should bring. There is a possibilty of a 1930 Mille Miglia Alfa Romeo coming and this will definately be a highlight in the Mid Atlantic annual Alfa Romeo Extravaganza in conjunction with the (0th Anniversary of Alfa Romeo. One 0f 55 rare One Hundred S Healeys will be on hand. The Emmis are setting up the drive on Saturday after the show.
As you know Flow BMW will be sponsoring breakfast Sunday morning and the drive to Virginia International Raceway. There will be special discounted passes for entry to VIR provided by Flow BMW.
David LeFevers has produced a great print which Thor is posting on the Web Site. This will be on sale and the proceeds from the sale as the registrations for the cars are being donated to the Reynolda House Childrens Arts program.
We are also excited about the Flags that arrived Friday form SouthCarolina. We will have National Flags denoting the country of the cars manufacture.
If you have not registered please do so and ask your friends to do so as well. It is a tremendous help to have as many cars preregistered as possible.
Ciao John Hauser.
The Corsa Rossa European Car Festival will be Saturday October 14th. Jim Clarkson is writing an article for Alfa Owner and Prancing Horse on our event this year.
Our festival consists of cars from all over Europe including Ferraris, Maseratis and Lancias from Italy to BMW, Porsche and Mercedes of Germany, to Aston Martin, MG and Lotus from Britain to Saab and Volvo from Sweeden as well as many other marques. There will be both competition and road cars on display. Registration will begin at 10am and end at 12 noon.
All European cars are invited to participate and will be parked according to their country of manufacture. There are twenty manufacturer classes and those cars not fitting into one of these twenty classes will be placed in the special interest or competition classes. Additional classes may be added prior to the show depending on preregistration.
Click here to print out a registration form!
Registration is $10 per car. A dash plaque will be given to each registered car. Awards will be presented to a car in each marque. Admission to Reynolda House will be free to registrants and children under 12 . Admission will be half price to all thers.
This is a unique setting for the festival in that it offers beautiful and historic Reynolda House, the Art Museum, Reynolda Gardens and Reynolda Village. Live music will be performed in Reynolda Village. The Village is the former support buildings and Dairy for the Reynolds Estate. It is set up in the traditional layout of an English country village. The village offers restaurants such as the Blackhorse Cafe, Reynolda Village Soda Shop, the Village Tavern and the Vineyards, all with outdoor seating. The shops contain everything from clothes, sportswear, antiques, books, music, toys, gourmet cookware and fine foods to jewelry and much more. The village has something for everyone.
At this point we have the following to Report: Import Auto Parts is going to be present at the show through Jennifer Johnston who will present special Cloisone Key Chains to each class winner.
The Emmis are hosting the Saturday night party after the show and are working on the 30 minute tour from Reynolda to their home.
There will be a drive to VIR on Sunday and Lee Davis has offered Coffee Juice Bagels etc at the start and 1/2 price addmission to VIR at the end. We need to discuss whether this will be a tour or TSD rally.
The Ferrari folks in Washington, DC and I believe Raleigh are interested in a rally. MAARC as we know traditionally has its rally on Sunday during the Extravaganza weekend. Jack and I are working on this with imput from Lee Davis who travels these backroads frequently to VIR.
We have a block of rooms at a special rate at the Brookstown Inn across from Ollies in Salem for the out of town Alfa and Ferrari Clubs. Speak to Steve Margolis who has the information from Carol at the Inn. Carol's son has been to each event since 1996.
Music will be provided live and gratis at the show by professional musicians...
Mid Atlantic Alfa Romeo will hold its Extravaganza and in light of the 90th birthday of Alfa Romeo at the event and will host its tech session there. IAP will have as its awards a very special item shipped in from Italy to commemorate the 90th Anniversary.
The featured class is Porsche and it appears to be ready for a big turnout.
David and Catherine Lefevers are working on the special event print with Reynolda House and the proceeds will be donated to the childrens art fund as are our registration receipts each year.
Ciao! John Hauser
