As many regular visitors to the Corsa Rossa web site have remarked, there hasn't been many updates lately. We'll attribute this to winter-sluggishness and bring the good news: In this issue we'll catch you up with all that has transpired since October, including the European Car Festival. We will also take a look at some exciting upcoming events, including the Appalachian Rally and the MAARC Winetour.
In this issue you will find the following:
Our sister club, the always-active Mid Atlantic Alfa Romeo Club, honored Corsa Rossa by hosting their annual Alfa Romeo Extravaganza at the show. No fewer than 28 Alfa Romeos were present ranging from 60's Giulietta Spyder and GTVs to the latest (well, at least in the US) Spyders and 164s. In addition to class judging there was a tech session on the theme "What to do when it won't start". (Not surprisingly, we spotted many Britsih fans watching from the sidelines. What, with Lucas electricals!) This Alfa initiative was a wonderful addition to the show, and Corsa Rossa warmly welcomes MAARC back in 2001!
After the show many participants opted to attend the drive through the Piedmont, which ended at Dan and Terri Emmi's house. The Emmis hosted an Italian party with pasta dishes and refreshing beverages. Many of us stayed until the wee hours.
Epilogue: The following day we gathered early outside Flow BMW for a caravan drive to Virginia International Raceway. Unfortunately, a Porsche driver (n.b. not part of the Corsa Rossa crew!) backed his car into a propane gas line, and the races had to be postponed due to the explosion hazard. The Porsche driver managed to get away, but the rest of us had to wait in the hills until the coast was clear several hours later.
Terri Emmi framed the David LeFevre Print and we toasted David and his art work. David plans to do another print next year for the European Festival. We thanked Dan and Terri Emmi for the superb party they hosted at their home after the European Festival. Foreign Cars Italia was acknowledged for their sponsorship of the Frost Fire Brass Quintet. Jack O'Brien led a brief discussion on ways to improve the festival and Jim Clarkson gave a summary of the Alfa Romeo Extravaganza. Jim announced that we had 28 Alfa Romeos for our largest class and a total of 151 entries. Jim announced that with the sales of David Lefevre's print and the registrations that we presented Reynolda House with a check for $1200 for the childrens' art program.
The Beavers shared their photographs from the Mercedes and Porsche Musuems and Factory coupled with their photographs from Rosso Bianco in Aschafenburg. They and John Hauser made a world wind tour through Hessen, Baden Wurtemburg, and northern Bayern. They travelled from Franfurt to Heidelberg to Stuttgart and from the Black Forest up through Franken and the Odenwald in several days of spirited driving .
They hooked up with Neal in Heidelberg and Isabelle in Stuttgart to add to the fun. The Emmis shared their photographs of their trip to the Indianapolis Grand Prix with the Snows.
John Harrill brought his pictures of the Alfa Extravaganza. Wow Alfisti did we have a great turnout or what?
We had 4 Alfa Romeos in the car park. Our annual rendezvous at Reynolda House and Historic Reynolda Village each October was so much more special with the Emmis party, the music provided by the Sirroco Winds and the Frost Fire Quintet, and the Alfa Romeo Extravaganza. This year the featured marque was Porsche.
We will have a surprise for those who attend. The forecasters are calling for snow this coming Monday so we may have a wintery rendezvous.
Discussions will include the trip to the Cavellino Classic, the Alfa Roaming Roebling Road drivers school March 3 and 4 as well as the tour of the Sports Leicht Restoration facility in Pinehurst in February.
After or before lunch we suggest you fill your tanks at the British Petroleum or the Exxon stations on Bridge Street adjacent to the Speedy Chef for there are no gas stations on this rally.
