I also have a monte carlo ss. Its a tangerine 85 ss.I have a suggestion about what to do with your subs. Iwent to school for mobile electronics, and i tried many ways to get good sound from my subs.You could put 4 subs in the trunk but, this will virtuall elliminate all trunk space. Also the spl of 4 subs will rattle the trunk horribly.you will want the sound to come into the car,and to do this you will have to put either a box with ports fireing through the rear deck, or what i did was run a sealed box w ich i built to fit on the shelf over the rear wheels that houses 2 mtx t5 12 inch subs.The correct size box for these 1.5 cubic feet per side which takes up the whole shelf.The subs are facing forward and i had to take out the seat foam so the sound would come through. I would suggest doing something like this.you could use 4 subs but as i said the trunk noise is bad and the sound will still be muffled. Take my advice,i have a montecarlo and i know about stereos.I've tried alot of subs and configurations,and the way i described is the best.In the stereo world having more subs is not always the way to go, its how you hook it up.

If your going the route your going you might want to consider going with a different transmission. The stock 200r4 is ok but can't take a lot of punishment a 700r4 would be perfect for your system. Or if your looking for speed I suggest either a 350 turbo or the 400 turbo trans they can handle the torque and deliver a good amount of power, and won't hurt your pockets too bad either. I've got an 87 Monte SS with a 383 cid, with a six pack system a 400 turbo trans and 390 gears. It's the perfect sleeper because I can drive it daily and the three carbs are idled down so she doesn't drink too much gas if your looking for some future mods and want some suggestions Email me you've got my address until then lock your doors and make damn sure if you've got an alarm on your car, that you have it on because thieves will try your patience. So anyway take care.

Hey cool webpage. I have two things for you: 1.) Where exactly in Nebraska do you live? I live in Lincoln, and I have a 1987 Monte Carlo SS Aero-coupe package, (I know, I'm lucky) Black/red trim. I say we meet up sometime and race, then go tear up the town! :) 2.) The stereo... take it from me, I've been studying stereos for 6 years now, and I put an unlimited budget into my baby, and this is truly the system that I would HIGHLY recommend. Clarion ProAudio deck. 3 1/2" Eclipse - Boston Acoustics are better, but over-power the rear...amazing, I know. 6X9" JL Audio Evolution VR series w/built in crossover network. MTX Thunder 280 amp (or 275x) for front Crossfire 202 or 302 amp for rear complete with Lightning Audio/Rockford Fosgate wiring. It ranked the bills up, but DAMN it will KILL anything else. And, believe it or not, I don't need subs. I have an 81 cutlass P.O.S. with 12" MTX subs + amp, and I love it, I listened to my stereo and really, those 6X9's are PERFECT. So, again nice car, and good luck

Cool SS Andy! I own an 85 SS too! It's white w/maroon int.(no t-tops). It's all stock except for a K&N air filter, "Bad Boy" Terminator mufflers and 8" Corvette ralleys. Tunes are heard via Pioneer Hi power 30x4 CD player and speakers. More mods to come ! Keep up the interest. We have a classic.

What's up fellow Monte Carlo SS owner! My name is Neil and I love SS Monte's, Turbo Regal's, some Mustangs, etc. I have an 88 SS of my own. Some details....... White, Grey interior, all options, T-tops, Bell-Tech lowered supension, tint, Alpine CD, Ecli se 3.5" and 6x9" speakers, Fosgate Punch 40 amp, Punch 50 Power Sreies amp, three 10" Punch DVC's in custon enclosure, capacitor, big battery and alternator, etc. As you can see, I have a lot of time, money, and pride in my "King SS". I noticed you were looking for suggestions on your stereo. Cool! The good thing for you is you don't have to worry about storage space for T-tops in your trunk. If I didn't have the tops, I probably would have 3 or 4 12's like you want. But I do so I settled for 3 10's u der the rear deck with the amps recessed in the raised trunk floor all covered in grey vinyl. Hey, if you have any qustions, e-mail me. I would like to meet more monte owners. Please email me. I have a silver 87 ss all options except t-tops. I am the second owner. The lady that owned the car before me cracked the block of the 305HO and traded it to a local dealership. When I got the ca I drove it for about two weeks then I realized I was losing coolant. I had know idea where it was going because I had no leeks and I wasn't blowing any white smoke. A week later I went to change the oil just because I didn't know when it had been chang d last. Well lets just say I found all of my coolant. Now there is a 350 in the car. The only minor changes done to the car are emissions legal headers,2 flowmasters,performer Intake, and a K&N. I would like to here more about your car. RJ

Nice "85" Andy, i hope you have a lot of fun with it! I'm Quite familiar with Montes.I owned a 1975, and currently own a 1985,and a 1997 Z34.All three of them black. All great cars. The "97" is loaded with a few extras i had added.Tinted windows,NASCAR sp iler,and Bowtie exhaust extensions. Cleaned up and waxed, It's a killer!! Don't let anybody kid you about six cylinders. That Dual overhead cam engine will blow away many an eight! The car you have will no doubt be a class act when you finish with it.It s already a classic!! Have fun, Dave
