I don't know how many other scouts have this problem, but twice in the past the gas pedal has broken off. The first time this happened we were away on holidays and had to quickly search for a solution.
There is a weak spot where the hole is drilled through at the pivot point. Our initial solution was to weld it back together.
I took it apart, found a welders shop and had it repaired. Although this repair lasted for a long time it did break again and I had it re-welded. Once again it broke and I had to come up with a new plan.
I purchased a gas pedal assembly from the wreckers. It looked OK on the wrecked scout but once I got it home and washed the dirt off I discovered that it also had been broken.
Time for a new plan!!!!!!
I purchased a square steel tube and using a hacksaw, drill, propane torch, large hammer, and an anvil I pretended I was a blacksmith.
Using the old one an a template I hammered my tube into the right shape. It came out pretty good although it is a little rippled in places. Once painted with black tremclad I was happy with my work and havn't had an problems with it since.
