Nick was born in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania in 1859. He was a sign painter in his home town, and continued that work after moving to San Bernardino. I have the good fortune to have his sign painters sketch book and will share some of his work with you in other pagers of this site. Grandfather Nicholas was also a deputy sheriff in San Bernardino and served as a special guard at the Orange Show in that town. He died in San Bernardino in 1937, a few years before I was born, so I didn’t have the pleasure of knowing him.
The youngest of my grandparents children was John Jay Codori (my father) born February 28, 1904 in San Bernardino. In the late 1930's he started training as a machinist and by the time the war broke out he was a tool and die maker. His trade and his age kept him out of the service (even though he tried to enlist). He worked at defense plants throughout Southern Calif., Nevada and Stockton, Calif.
Before he trained as a machinist, my father was a baker. It was while he was working in a restaurant (The Top Hat) near the beach in San Francisco, that he first met my mother, Pearl Francis Donahue (born Aug 4th 1910). Mom and dad married on November 1st , 1939. The first of their three children were born Sept 5th , 1940 then Aug. 29th , 1942 I came on the scene, then finally on Nov 11th , 1943, the youngest of my two sisters was born. That's the three of us on the lower left corner (L to R): Charlene (Codori) Thomas, Me, William (Bill) Codori and Gail (Codori) Munns.
Mom died June 25th 1996 and dad died Jan 16th 1973. Mom and dad's
