Mountain Dew is has the highest caffeine content of all citrus sodas.  It is bottled and distributed by Pepsi.  It is used by most people who drink it as a sleep substitute to stay awake or at parties for extra energy.  Some people including me, use it to stop headaches.  MD is a citrus soda, unlike Jolt or Coke.  It leaves less of a chalky taste in your mouth and can be consumed faster than colas.  MD is a little more sugary tasting the Kick, so your preference is what will determine what you drink.

High Kick / Super Dew

During my quest for something that is more powerful that MD, make me stay up longer, and doesn't taste bad, I've created this recipe.  Here's what you need:

1 Gallon Hi-C orange concentrate (Sam's Club or other discount club)

2 Cases of citrus soda (Mountain Dew, Kick, or Surge)

1 Package of Pixi Sticks

Just get a big keg or liquid cooler (like the Gatorade kind) and dump in one case of soda per half gallon of concentrate.  Add more or less as you see fit.  Throw in some Pixi sticks and there you are.  Every time someone wants a serving, shake up the container to remix the concentrate and Pixi Sticks.  DO NOT consume too much of this soda at one time.  Caffeine overdose can occur and serious health problems may result.  See below for details.

What Does Caffeine Withdrawal Look Like

Regular caffeine consumption reduces sensitivity to caffeine. When caffeine intake is reduced, the body becomes oversensitive to adenosine. In response to this oversensitiveness, blood pressure drops dramatically, causing an excess of blood in the head (though not necessarily on the brain), leading to a headache.

This headache, well known among coffee drinkers, usually lasts from one to five days, and can be calmed with aspirin. It is also stopped with caffeine intake. Often, people who are reducing caffeine intake report being irritable, unable to work, nervous, restless, and feeling sleepy, as well as having a headache. In extreme cases, nausea and vomiting has also been reported.

What happens when you overdose?

A typical overdose is usually in excess of 250 mg of caffeine (Five Mountain Dews) in one hour. Severe overdoses can cause severe brain damage and even death. In one such case a college student died of consuming 48 ounces of Mountain Dew (200mg of caffeine) in about thirty seconds. Death WILL occur if more than 10,000mg of caffeine (200 cans of Mountain Dew) is consumed.

Some signs of a typical overdose are:

1.restlessness, nervousness, or excitement (hyperactivity)

2.insomnia (sleeplessness)

3.muscle twitching (hyperactivity)

4.rambling flow of thought and speech

5.periods of inexhaustibility (hyperactivity)
