Race number 5, Sviestad 18/9 1999 Drivers: Clapton, Desmo and Reodor. Time: 3 + 3 hours Changes since last race: New alternator. And a lot of mended fibreglass (sigh). Biggest field ever, 24 cars and about 10 in our class. Start 900. Clapton started and all cars kept more or less the same pace for an hour. We were sixth in class after first hour. 1000. Reodor took next turn and managed to be of the track when the front wheels lost all grip while accelerating out from the chicane. He went in and had the spoiler patched and checked for missing parts. At the same time we checked the oil, because the oil pressure meter displayde zero. So did all the other gauges as well so we decided to keep on. We held 8th place in class after the depot stops. 1100 Desmo went out and kept the pace and we were on seventh place at the lunchstop. 1200-1400. Lunchstop, and Beetle-sprint-race. During the stop Reodor went out and salvaged the spoiler undertray from the side of the track. During stop youre not supposted to work on the car even if its in the pits for a lengthy repair that started before the stop. So he asked the organizers if he could straighte the broken spoilerparts in the pits, while the car was in parc ferme. They saw no hinder for that. Next question: "How much of the car has to be in the parc ferme to classify as a car" He is thinking of changing his pseudonym to Smokey, and we are thinking of wearing t-shirts with the text "If they cant find it, it legal" on next race 1400 Clapton went out again for his second turn and he came in after his hour for driverchange with a broken clutch wire. He had held his place on third gear in half an hour and we were suddently third place. 1500 Reodor went out and kept his place for the hour knowing that the fastes car behid us were 20 laps down. He lost four to them and one lap to the car in fourth place. 1600 Desmo took the last turn. Se had one Golf one lap down, and the Matex Corsa three laps down and the fast Björkeberg Volvo 14 laps down. He lost 1 second per lap to the Golf and took another lap on the Corsa fairly early. Suddently he lost 5 seconds on the golf and lost the lap on the corsa again. We guessed that he used the escape road once, and so it was. He overtook the Corsa again and when he was about 15 secs before the Golf when broke their driveshaft and was out. At that moment it was three laps to the flag and our first podiumplace on 6 years was a fact. *Sigh* Epilogue. We are going to lighten her about (we said 50) 30 kilograms. And do some seam welding. A new wing and a new chair and som stuff with the engine (wont say what) but can you hide a turbo inside the oil collection tank? Stay tuned, well be there..
