There are many wonderful
shops in the greater Houston
area. I will tell you about the ones I am most familiar with in the Spring, Texas
area.
There are over 100 shops
in Old Town Spring, some antiques, but mostly gift shops. It is a great place
to spend a day. Old Town Spring is just east of the I-45 Freeway.
Spring Antique Mall is in
the UHaul Center at I-45 and FM 2920,Spring Cypress
Road, on the west side of the freeway. It is a 10,000 square foot mall with
about 35 dealers. It is big enough to find lots of great items, but not to big
to get lost in! A very friendly place to shop. About
1/4 mile west is Antique Gallery. It is 80,000 square feet with a little bit of
everything.
Tomball, Texas is just about 12 miles west of Spring. About a mile or two before Tomball on FM 2920 is
Laurie's. Laurie used to import containers from England and Europe regularly,
but now is nearly all new.She has great
furniture and smalls. Her shop is huge and just wonderful. There are a number
of antiques shops and a whole lot of thrift stores in Tomball, all lined up on
or near Main Street.
You can park and walk to all of them. It is a fun place to hunt for treasures.
Bellville, Texas
is about an hour from Houston on Highway 36
between Sealy and Hempstead. There are a
number of shops on the square, and one shop called Nothing
Ordinary, just off the square. It is the largest and nicest shop in town. On
the square are also gift shops. It is a fun place to go and spend the
afternoon.
There is a fabulous
antiques show on the first weekend in April and October in Round Top, Texas, and the
surrounding area. This is about 100 miles from Houston, to the northwest, in the beginning
of the hills. It is mostly outdoors or in tents, and is held rain or shine.
Most of the finest primitives are sold at this show. It attracts dealers from
all over the country. There are literally thousands of dealers set up in fields
that cover several miles. Warrenton,
Texas, about 3 miles south of
Round Top has a flea market and antiques show that starts the week before Round
Top. The Original Round Top Antiques Fair has several venues in Round Top and
Carmine; Marburger Farm Antique Show is huge and
between Round Top and Warrenton, with over 300 dealers.
Rural Texas
Antiques Shows does six shows a year in Brenham, Bellville, Columbus, Cat Spring and Goliad. These are
wonderful shows with over 50 dealers and lots of variety.
These
are some of my favorite haunts to shop! I hope you enjoy shopping them as much
as I do.
