Zondernaam | Stellenbosch |
Zondernaam means 'no name'. It's used for wines from one of South Africa's most hyped wineries - Tokara. This brand new winery with its stunning design has had no expense spared in its construction but, as at November 2004, has not released any wines under its own name, and will not until they are satisfied that they meet their own high standards. I suppose you could consider Zondernaam wines like the pre-opening night run of a theatre show.
Zondernaam wines have been getting plaudits in their own right, especially their Sauvignon Blanc but I was not aware they made Pinotage. At 35R from the winery this has to be a bargain. Unfortunately it looks like a one off, made from bought in grapes, and double unfortunately the bottle I took away with me was corked. |
