CEREUS FLOWER  (ONE NIGHT BLOOM FLOWER)
( IN CANTONESE "KENG FAH " )

The flowers are white in colour. The petals are delicate and look like feathers. The photo below (June 2000) does not really do justice to  the delicateness of the petals.

The flowers had blossomed  in just over two hours at night - you could almost visually detect the movements in the flower as it blooms. It gives a very subtle fragance as it blooms.

It is truly an amazing plant . Our plant is hardy and had been with us for 20  over years already,  having grown from a leaf. The blooming is rare and there was only 4 blooms in the 20 years.

The Chinese have a saying for it. "Keng Fah yat yin".

Translated in English, it means  the cereus flower shows itself for one (short) appearance only. (Therefore make use of the opportunity to see it - in other words, seize your opportunity)
